Default New clutch....

S1 needs a new clutch – whilst it hasn’t ‘gone’ it’s now not holding very much when she comes on boost so it needs to come out.

Now, I’ve got a brand new AP four paddle platesitting in a box that has never been used. If I use a standard cover andbearing, what are they like to live with ? I don’t use the car everyday, likely1200 miles a year max so sitting in traffic day in, day out isn’t really anissue. Equally, if they’re as bad to live with as people say then I’d ratherlook for recommendations on other clutches.

Any real world experiences ?

So no-one on here knows anything about paddle clutches or has any experience of them.

Unless you're one of the 'in' crowd of course.

have no experiance with that car but have a 6 puk sprung paddle clutch in my daily drive (toyota starlet turbo) and its not bad to drive with and is ok in traffic, you just have to give it a few more revs taking off or else it judders (also has a lightned flywheel). i previously had a 3 puk unsprung paddle clutch which was a dog to drive in traffic needed alot off revs to take off or else it would jump forward. both of them had heavy duty pressure plates and the pedel was harder than standard but didnt feel too heavy. is your disc sprung or unsprung?

Is it worth going hydraulic now or is that too much?

I run a alcon 6 paddle and standard luk pressure plate, its nice and light and doesn't grab, slight judder but that will be the gearbox mounts too.

Its holding out with 247bhp@ the wheels.

I used to have a paddle with a standard cover plate and although it is a little snatchier, it's perfectly fine to live with. A paddle with an uprated cover makes it a lot snatchier, but again, you soon get used to it. I did 10,000 miles with my old paddle clutch set up and a lot of that was traffic.
