Decided to fit a new steering wheel to my focus rs mk1, so I disconnected the battery, left it half an hour. Removed the airbag and started undoing the centre nut. Then there was a clunk, the wheel came off and the nut but the steering shaft seems the have dropped backwards and the nut doesn't reach it anymore??
Any ideas please??

If you get no joy have a look on the RSOC, there are a good few threads on it, I've never changed mine so cant shed any light on it.
Good luck tho can be sorted so dont worry to much.

the steering column retracts, you need a length of threaded bar, to put down the hole screw in and use it to pull the column back out. i have something at home i made, if i get a chance i'll take a picture of it and post it after work
