They old, early/mid 80s.

Not actually 4.5litre, but 3.2 or 3.5 straight six turbo.

Auto only i think.

The E23 BMW 745i was first introduced around 1979 using the staight six 3210cc engine from the 733i mated to a KKK turbo and intercooler it pushed out 252bhp using a beefed up 3 speed box (zf3hp22) in 1983 the 745i was revised and the 3430cc engine from the 735i was used still producing 252bhp with the KKK turbo and intercooler but now using a beefed up 4 speed gearbox (zf4hp22) 280 ft lb torque was delivered from both engines production ended in july 1985 just over 16,000 cars were built this car was only available in GB as left hand drive! South Africa had a different 745i this was right hand drive and it used a different engine the 286bhp twin cam 24 valve from the M635CSI connected to a manual gearbox from theM535I/M3 you could also get a 4 speed auto too there was only 194 of these built from 1984 to 1987 went out in a GB 745i many years ago when our dad had one for a while you are more likely to come across one in Germany for sale than here as for price ? expect to pay as little as peanuts to quite a lot hope thats of some help

My Dad used to have one back in the mid 80's. In the UK, I have seen them for between £2K-5K. I think they are all LHD...They are fairly easily available in Germany.

It was a long time ago; I will see if I can scan in some pics. Essentially, it just looks an E23 but with some additonal spoilers, and mega spec for that era. I remember, as a kid, that it had a split rear, electrically adjustable seats!

It was seriously nice car, in a 80’s sort of way. Our one had hand stitched buffalo leather roof lining, dash door panels and handles. There was also an option to have a fax machine in rear arm rest
