Default Mondeo 2008 1.8tdci starting problems

I have an issue with my Mondeo, it first started a week ago. When the key is turned nothing happens. I had the battery checked and replaced. I then had a week of trouble free motoring. I tried to start the car this evening and it was the same issue. I metered the battery out whilst trying to start the car and the voltage did not drop which makes me think it is not the alternator. The starter motor was replaced approx 18 months ago. There is an electric hum coming from the egr valve whoiich I do not know if that is normal. Can anybody help me?

It sounds like some sort of Can-Bus communication error, If it was an Astra H i would be saying it was a Column Integrated Module (CIM) but im not upto speed on the newer Fords. If GVK spots this thread there is a good chance he will know the cause.

Any warning lights or 'engine system malfunction' warnings come up on the dash when you try and start it?

Does the mileage display turn from numerical to ----- when you try and start it? Immobiliser light flashes fast?

Have you tried wriggling the key/pushing it forward held in crank position in case its just a simple ignition switch fault. (Had that on a Fiesta recently)

It could be, or if a CAN fault it could be a lot more in depth..

That's why I asked the questions about the warning lights and dash displays.

I suspect you have another fried starter.
Has the dual mass flywheel starts to fail it gives off lots of iron filings which nacker up the starter.
The starters been replaced but the DMF is still wearing and giving off filings!

It's a bit vague really, no mention of any clicking, whats going on ,on the dash, easy to guess, could be anything.

Besides, if it was the starter, (providing it's getting power to it) the voltage would change when cranking, which the OP said doesn't.
