Default Car dealers

The long and short of it is the mother in law has sold her house and wants a new car the challenge is to get the best deal.

What can a car dealer give you? That they may not want to tell you about there has to be room to move on there part surely I want to try squeeze them for everything I can maybe a tank of petrol tax a free service whatever a discount anything at all really lol

Few quick questions

Best time to strike after crimbo or February before new reg comes out?

Trade in or no trade in I was thinking no trade in as less hassle for the dealer?

The one thing that isn't in our favour is it needs to be an automatic which I feel may limit our options some what

All advice welcome

see what the car is worth private against trade in value first as that will tell you which way to go, and cash is king when buying cars as they can allow way more discount if not taking in a p/x and be sure to get warranty covering parts and labour

We work in quarters here as a dealer, each quarter has its own target and bonus payments in relation to that target being reached.

IMO all dealers are chasing registrations before xmas, so now's as good a time as any to look for new stuff.

Decembers always a slack month for new cars and the manufacturers know this hence good deals being launched as we speak.

If it's a Toyota or Lexus you're after, give me a shout!

Peugeot weren't bothered at all about a cash sale and no trade in. I really struggled to get much off the windscreen price of my missus 207 Sportium.

believe it or not, the week between xmas and new year is 1 of the busiest for new/used car sales so jan isn't a great month for a discount
every dealer is differant, if you get 1 close to a target then they wiil bend over backwards for the sale as theres a big bonus for them if they can make the sales
if your gonna be financing it then you can actualy get a better deal by taking that than by paying cash
even paying cash some places will offer a better deal if you take the finance then clear it after a month
that way the salesman will get extra comission for selling te hpi
and if the salesman is making money out you then he'll spend time with you, and you can try get the best deal possible out him(either way he aint your friend, your just a punter to him and he's out t get as much out you as poss)

On a side note, is it still the same that most places won't or can't take cash if over a certain amount? My boss went to buy a car for 12k in cash and was told amounts over 3k (I think) had to be either a card transaction or bank transfer for money laundering issues, is that still the case?

Most garages work like that nowadays but think it's 10k. It's cause of all the drug dealers buying high end cars for cash and them selling them on and claiming to be car dealers cause it looks like a legitimate source of income cause they can 'prove' where the money came from

second hand timing belts and even brakes if they can get away with them if you take the car back with a problem same things they do but will take them weeks to sort it out leaving you with out any means of transport in the mean time and if you got any kind of warning light on reggie will fix it by taking out your dash and putting black tape over the light so the customer then thinks the fault has been fixed just making the car DEATH TRAP ON WHEELS EVEN THOUGH IT WAS WHEN BOUGHT IN THE FIRST PLACE
