Escort rs turbo fuel pump

Hello everyone have a RS Turbo s2 pump gone just purchased new one and I thought before I take old one off I would try new one off car by wiring + lead to car battery and - lead to same battery to see if it works but nothing have a got a dud new pump or would the pump not work in that way ie 2 lead from a battery to the pump terminals

It should work that way...

But not for long, it will run hot without the liquid fuel to cool it down.

Well I had 2 of them for 10 years, best cars ive ever had used to tailgate 3 series BMWs the look of them trying to shake off a rusty old cav was great, okay fuel pump most be bad then, have to find another one thanks everyone
