Ferrari 355 cambelt - book time 22hrs (every 3 years 30,000miles)

Bloke I used to work with used to work at a Ferrari independent, he said they'd take the best part of a working week to do.

Spazzy steering wheels on Citroen C4 Picasso where the steering wheel turns behind the airbag which stays stationary.

Changed a couple of them now, on ex-motability cars that have had a steering wheel 'knob' fitted and fooked the rim up.

Better the second time...

This 'thing' - the airbag should just 'pop off' by putting a screwdriver in a hole under the steering wheel and pushing a spring. If you're lucky it pops off straight away, or you struggle trying to release it for 1/2 hr.

Then the switches around the airbag are removed, and the gearchange if auto, column shrouds then the stalks, there's a wire that's a complete cunt to release, that goes into the back of the switches, you get this with a new wheel so I just cut it off now!

Once you get all this off, the wheel sits on a bearing carrier arrangement. Special tool required to keep it centred, you get the tool with a new wheel.

French shit!

ive never yet took the fronts off, was shown by an audi tech that headlights out (quick release anyway via the 4 torx bolts) and prop the front end forward with wood gives enough room to do belt. 30 minute job for most 40 minute for v6 tdi's

not entirley true, they hold the crank girdle in place and if you turn the crank with headbolts out you can spin the shells on the mains and big ends thus scrapping the crank after starting (yes ive had it happen)

clutches on vectra are not that bad, i can now with the amount ive done drop the subframe in about 15 minutes if im rushing making it pretty easy to get to everything, ive done far worse clutches

one of my pet hates is turbo changes on some range rovers, i refuse them these days as im far too busy to take shit like that on, you have to remove the body from the chassis! and that may be easy enough on early defenders, not so much on modern rangeys! lol

One thing I used to hate on 80s Fords was clutch ratchets, used to struggle to get the U shaped clips back in, most likely went twangggg behind the carpet, fucking things! My boss could do them really quickly where as I'd be fucking about ages.

Transit ones were piss easy, and the ones where you could take the whole pedal box out.

Mind you, clutch master cylinders on the 2004> Focus/Cmax can be a right twat. That return spring

In fact anything that involves hanging under the dash I don't like.

I have a 2013 Focus in my bay at minute with body control module failure, it is double locked so you can't open any door other than the driver's. Where is the body control module? Yes..under the dash behind the glovebox. Yes Ford technical I will hang upside down to check all the feeds and grounds to the module.

Although not engine related its still a stupid design......My mrs old corsa c fuel flap. Not open manually, just incase you need fuel in an emergancy oh no. Its solenoid. My mrs one broke meaning her fuel was running out and she couldnt get in to fuel it up! Had to remove ALL trim inside the boot including entire C pillar trim just to open the bloody fuel flap! Stupid Vauxhalls.

Just done the chain guides/tensioners on my VR6... Not too bad of a job in itself even though you have to remove the inlet/gearbox/clutch/flywheel, but when some twat beforehand has tried to remove the driveshafts with allen keys/torx bits instead of the spline bits and rounded ALL of them off, it becomes fucking annoying!

Anyone mentioned clutch cable on a 106? THAT can be a pain in the ass! Some go straight up under the steering rack no problems, others can take AGES.

I did a few Fiat stilo front central locking motors. They used to jam and I used to take the front seat out(on the side the motor was nackered) and take the door card off normaly this would get damaged. Then all the bolts had to come out of the inner panel(like a golf) then take the small torx screws out of the central door locking module then rip/snap the cover off. Then there was a tiny rod sticking out.Flick that up and the door opens.

I did a few suzuki swifts with a similar fault.I used a windy metal cutter to cut a hole in the interior door panel to get the door open.

Or you could have just turned the key in the driver's door lock twice. That makes it pop open!

When my passat w8 stripped its flywheel and clutch, the whole engine etc had to come out!!

The idea of taking the front end off a car to do a timing belt or the likes of - ie. 5 cylinder audi coupes/80s/90s/100s, passats etc - is just plain fucking stupid!!

Seems to be mainly vag stuff is the problem here. Though mk2 focus' require the headlights and tail lights to be removed to change bulbs. Another bright idea. Stuff use to be designed to have access for maintainence!

Thermostat housing on my Vectra c cdti 120...
A hell of a design!!!
Think there's 2-3 bolts holding the housing on, but one of the bolts holds the bracket for the egr pipe work!!! Why???
If they just put a slot in the bracket you'd still be able to undo it with a socket!!!
Took me 4 hours in total cutting the bracket off, if that pipe wasn't in the way it would be a 20 min job!!!
Also glow plugs are a nightmare to get at on the same car!!!
Changing the gear selector cables again just a crap job!!!

Most jobs on a disco 3 tdv6 are a big pain!!!

To be fair, mk2 Focus headlights just have 1 tx30 screw holding them in, just pop out of the spring loaded clips, quicker to whip the lamp out than fart about I find.

Did my chains/guides/tensioners and head gasket prior to fitting VR6 into mk2, much easier with engine on the floor.

Sportka head light bulb replacement requires car jacking up,wheel and arch lining taking off as the little access panel in the arch liner is way to small to get your hand through.

BMW and mini track rod ends boil my piss, when it comes to setting up steering on these.
Even when they are a couple of years old they are seized and require heat.

Even the bloody french realized that they once used a shit design. (13mm but to undo the clamp) these used to always seize up.

Vauxhall insignia diesel oil filter

Right above the driveshaft inner joint, tips all the oil over it then it all runs into the under shield. (dealers have some sort of catch device which I need to find or replicate)

There's a bolt that holds the starter motor onto the gearbox of a KA that either required you removing the bumper and radiator to access or you have to use 4 extension bars!
