Default electrical 'noise' from engine ???

as above, I get a high pitched electrical noise from the engine bay whilst driving, it seems to get louder as I accellerate (until I cant hear it over the engine), it seems to be coming from the alternator area, what can cause this as its very annoying Brand new alternator was fitted last week as well.

cheers, Duncan

yes, Ive got one wired up in the boot. The noise isnt coming from that though, its definately coming from the actual alternator itself. Someone told me if your stereo or amp has a bad earth then you can hear it through your speakers, thats why I thought it might be a bad earth from the alternator

If the alternator wasn't earthed, it would kill the battery almost instantly as the circuit isn't complete and wouldn't have any output charge.

Try exchanging the alternator and go from there Was the noise there prior to replacing the alternator??

The other thing of course is you could have wound it up way too tight and the bearings are screaming their wotsits off - sounds daft but very possible!!
