Default Focus TDDi Crank But Won't Turn Over?! Codes Supplied

Hi, ok my car Focus TDDi 52 would run fine, the odd morning it would start, then 10 seconds later revs drop then cut out - this happened about 3 times - weeks apart. The car would pretty much start fine straight after and no probs. Then this happened again but would not start up and hasn't since.

I got a F - Super 2 and these are the results. I admit I'am very amateur at mechanics but can and have fixed cars before. I'm fairly skint so if you guys could share any of your knowledge that could fix this, I would really appreciate it.

Cheers in advance.

I've checked all the fuses behind glove box and under bonnet (transparent ones - just checked not broken).

Firstly, welcome, I suppose!

Well, you have the fault codes, so unless anyone here has experience with these fault codes (on a Focus TDDi), then help will be limited. You just gotta get torn in the the area the code points at.

I sold a TDDi '52 Focus a few weeks back, developed a PO235, Turbo Boost "A" Circuit. I never did find the fault and put it down to a loom issue. Damn, that fault done my head right in. Good 2nd run-about, I put 30k on it and it never missed a beat until the P0235.

Google those codes if you haven't already....

Is there plenty of charge in the battery.

Initially I was suspect about this, I charged- wasn't fully charged after 24 hours but was eager to try, I was definitely charging... Slowly. Charging again- will let you know of results. In the mean time the f-super code has option of clearing and resetting the codes and pcu- any advice should I?

If you plan to get any professionals to look at the car, be aware, when clearing fault codes, you also change "Monitor Readiness" status (emissions related control modules), and some other information which may or may not have been written out to memory during the process of the various faults occuring. For example, there could be something written out to memory, related to a certain fault, which may not be written out next time the fault occurs. This means that an important clue is lost, although you have the fault code.

Regarding the battery/charging point which Glen and I mentioned; you are talking about the situation when the battery is actually on the car, yes? This is what we meant.

Without a consistanly controlled, and present "live", the diesel pump will not supply diesel to the injectors, yet the car may still turn over, but not fire. Besides having enough power to crank the engine fast enough for a compression ignition fire, this is just one reason why newer generation diesels will need a healthy battery, and charging as it should. Current generation diesels, common rail, high pressure (TDCi in Ford's case) rely extremely heavily on electrics, unlike these simple, pump timed diesels, TDDi.

my mondeo tddi had a dead alternator but the engine was running quite happily with 5v across the battery, all the other electrics had stopped working! Have you tested the battery to make sure it is ok?

Yeah, the older diesels are great.

Try that with a common rail!

Can you explain what you mean by "crank, but wont turn over" ?

Cranking is turning over.

Based on the very vague description of the problem, and the pattern of codes, it does just sound like a screwed alternator and now your battery has gone flat.

So when you say it is charging, you are actually measuring around 14v at the battery when the engine is running ?
And all electrics work as normal, lights etc ?
