Cheapest cars to insure for new drivers
What is the general car for young people to buy as their first car these days? My niece is going to get her test passed(hopefully) and is 22 years old. What would be a good car for her to buy considering the ridiculous cost of being robbed by the insurance companies?

Lee,
is you niece working?
the way I see it, you either buy a £500 shitter and get arse raped for £2K - £3K per year insurance
or,
if she's working, why not buy a brand new car with a 'free insurance' offer
Peugeot, for example are doing a 'just add fuel' offer so, included in the deal is
3 years comprehensive insurance
3 years servicing
3 years road tax
3 years warranty
3 years roadside assistance
so, why pay £2K - £3K per year to insure a £500 shitter (£3K is £250 a month)
when, if she can afford it, buy a new car for £179 a month (that's what the deals start from for a new car per the website link - for a Peugeot 107), get free insurance and after 3 years she'll (hopefully) have 50% NCB.......
Edited: per the Terms & conditions for the Peugeot offer the minimum age for the free insurance is 21, so she'll get that as she's 22!

lots of 'new car deals with free insurance' offers on, if you google it

Testing the future
we can't advise until we've seen pics of her - the insurance price depends on chest size as some cars can cause injury if the air bags go off into norks that are too close to the steering wheel. it's physics - every action has an equal and opposite reaction and all that

Peugeots just add fuel is a no go as there was a young lass trying it when we bought my missus 207. Need 2 years driving experience to qualify.
Fiat Sceicento, Vauxhall Corsa 12v. Basically as small and undesirable as is humanly possible then it will still cost a bomb saddly.

my lad is 19 and has a fiesta 1.25 freestyle
cost him 110-00 a month to insure with co-op and a black box fitted
after 3 months it has dropped to 90-00 a month
best way to go if you ask me

Cheers lads. Will look into that for her Magnum!
Looked at insurance for her on a 1.0 12v corsa club and its 1100 a year! Not bad for first car in this day I guess!

Also worth looking at the non-chavable motors. I know I'm not female (or 22), but it was cheaper to insure a 1.8 Focus than a 1.2 Punto.
The Fiat Seicento or Cinquento are quite cheap. Or even a Classic Panda!
Other than that, it's all the usual tricks: tinkering with excess, rephrasing job title, added experienced drivers with clean licenses, comparing fully comp to TPFT etc

Those shitty old land rovers from the early 70's are cheap
A lad near us was getting 2 k quotes then dragged an old landy from a barn and got offered insurance for under 500 quid
Ok it does 60 tops but they just rebuilt it with disco running gear and its a pretty good ride
