Default Gazcoilover fitting problem/ query on Escort Cos

Was fitting my new coilovers tonite but when I came to fit the fronts I seen that when you push them fully down and they sit on the ridge "seat", the hole doesn't line up and when you line the hole up, you can see how far it sits up off the ridge.

Is this the way it should be or have i got some shocks that have the bracket welded in the wrong place???????

any help would be appreciated

Line up the hole mate, the ridge is there to stop you wheel going through your wing if you have an 'off'.
Seen it happen on some koni's....wasn't pretty

The ridge is only there for safety as I said.
The little bracket is only there to stop the shock turning.
The shock is held in place by the clamping force of the 12mm bolt
Have a look at all other shocks how they are mounted...exactly the same, except as most are not used on tracks, they don't have the 'safety ring' to stop the shock getting punched through.
As I said I have seen an Escort Cossy where the shock 'punched through' and fucked the tyre as it hit the spring cup!!!
Cool calander by the way...THANKS

it would make sense to have the ridge lower,
cant understand why they bother putting one on if its so far up the shock

That ridge must be a mis-weld!

Every shock I've ever seen has the ridge resting on the top lip of the hub........

Wouldn't be a fan of that

Look most shocks don't even have a ridge!!!!!
These are put on there for a reason and people think they're wrong

OK everyone, this was a simple question about the coilovers and I have every confidence that they are that way for a reason, please dont jump on the bandwagon and start slating something that you's know nothing about.

Sorry Chris for the bad press, I am just a bit thick and need technical help now and then, lol.

Scott

I'm with Cossymad, look at Konis they are exactly the same but without the ridge at all!

You can just about make it out:

Ball joints on hubs use pinch bolts in the same manner, it is perfectly safe.

Dont think its wrong or unsafe just in the wrong place lol.

And Chris said he's seen Koni's be punched into the hub so that rules them out as being a good pointer Phil.

Cant tell from this PC as it has a dodgy monitor but if that ridge is welded underneath then it would never sit flush anyway - so it maybe in the right place in their mind but wrong in ours

Diplomatic as ever me yes Chris

Looking now on my 19" TFT monitor it looks like its designed to be like that. Would be no good in hard motorsport because if the wheel takes a knock from the side, the bottom of the case will bend, just like every single Koni and Motorcraft strut I have ever had on did. If it were sat on the lip it would gain more strength from the hub/lip face.

Fine for road / mild track use Might email them tho' to ask why
