Looking now on my 19" TFT monitor it looks like its designed to be like that. Would be no good in hard motorsport because if the wheel takes a knock from the side, the bottom of the case will bend, just like every single Koni and Motorcraft strut I have ever had on did. If it were sat on the lip it would gain more strength from the hub/lip face.
