Advise for brake Shock upgrade!
Hi I'm looking to upgrade my front shocks and brakes on my XR4i,
I've been offered Koni adjustable shocks with lowering springs off a 2wd Cossie as well as the hubs, discs and calipers!
If the hubs calipers and discs are standard would I be able to fit 300mm discs?
Or would I need different hubs for the calipers to fit?
Many thanks for any advise

it will all fit, you can modify your own hubs by tapping the holes m12. easier to fit the cossy hubs imo. as for the suspension the dampers will be ok but i dont think the springs will be strong enough to cope with the heavy v6 lump.

if you want to fit the cossie stuff you need to be aware that you will need to fit cossie upgrades as they have tapped hubs
you will also need to use cossie tca's as they are pinch bolt and your 4i will have push through tcas as most other 2wd sierra's
from standard to 4 pots it's quite an improvement, but to be honest, you would be better off buying the struts and then fitting the 300mm st170 discs along with some mk3 mondeo calipers and braided lines (make sure you have the correct fittings on the caliper end as some people have said they are different in some cases)
you will need to invest in some 16 inch rims though to be sure everything will fit, but it's by far the best upgrade on a budget you can get
a word on the springs though, the struts will fit not a problem, but the spring rates need to be checked as you may have too much weight in the front in the shape of the v6 to begin with, so the static weight the springs need to support will be greater than what they are designed to take so your lowered springs may end up with your car even lower
if you fit them and it puts your motor into the weeds then you'll need to put the original ones back in again

the hubs will take the tapping, not a problem, you will just need to be aware that the mondeo caliper upgrade also requires the hubs to be drilled out to 12mm for the thicker bolts so it's a case of what is easier on your wallet in the short term and what you want to do in the long term

Right think I got it sorted!
The guy who offered me all the Cossie set up said there standard disc's 282mm
But I think my standard are the same size so only difference is the calipers! Yeah?
The "buying shocks then st170 mondeo callipers sounds bit option I think?
Been offered other springs off a 4i so might go better than the lowered Cossie ones
I already got 17" wheels with loads of clearance so that not a problem!
Would the mondeo calipers fit onto my original 4i hubs?
Cheers again

you could see if what your car does only using koni yellow cossie struts and the springs you use rightnow. the cossie struts are a bit shorter than 4i ones (witch are just the same as all the non cossie or non 4x4 shocks), but the only thing is, the disc where the spring is on, on the lower side, might hit your tire or rim. i used 5 mm spacers on my dohc sierra mk2, and it was very low, and it drove very well.
i've got koni yellow and 40 mm lowering springs on my 4i, but still the normal brakes, will upgrade to cossie sometime, got the hubs and tca's and such laying around, but i might just fit the cossie brakes on my 4i hubs, saves me another day of laying around below my car shouting and mumbling becouse its a lousy job to replace the hubs.
also, if you use cossie 2wd 4 pods, use braided lines like dojj says, quite a different feel than the original rubber crap lines!
