Coming home from classic a couple of years ago in my 320 bhp saf, I over took a standardish looking nova van just lowered and rims, next thing he's all over me and came past me like I was stood still!! He pulled into a petrol station a few miles up the road so I pulled in behind him and it turned out it was running a 460 bhp red top!!!

Had a big Vauxhall saloon flash me over when I was 19 on the motorway. Dropped to 3rd and went for it, showing an indicated 130 I checked my mirror and it was still there. Moved over and he came past me like my handbrake was on. That was my first encounter with a Lotus Carlton. Proper quick car

Well I know my ST170 (140bhp? if I'm lucky) isn't really that quick, but the other week I was rather taken back by how slow it actually is.

I had an old tatty Volvo S40 roll up behind me the other day, and when the road cleared I excised the car's lust for second gear roll on accelerations. The Volvo sat at two car lengths behind me, 3rd, 4th, 5th gear, by which time I was really moving. Then with a whistle and a pop the Volvo undertook me with the driver looking out the window at me smiling. The Volvo went past me with an almighty rasp that sounded like someone taking an angle grinder to a sheet of thick steal.. It made me smile though and boy did it shift, and I mean really shift. It was genuinely like I put the brakes on

That's when I realized that my ST170'ish was actually a slow car, so I'm fitting a new catalyst of Thursday and will put it up for sale, as I want a fast Ford

I have a fiesta ST, it was supercharged running about 300bhp.
Just out on a drive to blow the cobwebs out when I come across a little convoy of modified cars including a couple of civic type r's, mk4 polo. I enjoy having a blast with type r's, I normally am the one doing the surprising!
So anyway we pull onto a open bit of road and plant the throttle, I quickly pass the civics, look in my mirror and there are headlights stuck to my bumper, seconds later the little polo flies past. My foot was still welded to the floor and it just disappeared!
I have never had a car leave me for dead like that thing did, would love to know what was in it!

VW phaeton w engined thing was all over me in my old 400+bhp saph.
The ridiculous thing was, I was in full f1 style concentration mode trying to keep traction and keep in a straight line in my attempt to get away from it but the bastard was driving the phaeton one handed whilst smoking a fag!

Paul_RS may know these cars...

But on the way back from his town one night in my old Saxo VTS, up the motorway off the clock having a pop at my mates 106 GTI and an Integra engined "MB6" Civic VTi and a Citroen AX with a vts/gti 16v engine on itbs and it pulled away from us like we where 1.1s.....and then out of no where across a couple of lanes, a well known 400bhp bug eyed impreza was getting pushed up the motorway by a Rover 100 Kensington. It had a Lotus Elise VVC K-Series engine with mods!!!

Probably the best spirited driving night of my life. I thought the AX was mega quick, until that Rover pushed the Impreza up the motorway lol

i've surprised too many in my xr2, apart from big wheels, big brakes and a big exhaust, from most angles looked standard. well apart from the intercooler hanging out front that is.
had scoobies, evos, glanzas, cosworths mk2 focus rs's etc. not much has kept up with it when rolling.
miss it for that alone, really was a keep up at any speed then nail the throttle spinning up over triple figures, they were the days.

what has surprised me was how quick R5gtt's are as standard, the little weight really does make them shift and when tuned are weapons (as long as no HG failure occurs, turbo's shit themselves etc......)

Not much to be honest, as I tend to take on anything. Meaning, I'd line up with a car with twice the power of mine. Hell, I've played with six times the power. I always loose, but it is nice to see a quick car tear off. However, my brothers Volvo s60 with its cheap "ebay power" absolutely feckin destroys me after about 80mph.
I've supprised a few, but that's not we are talking about......is it folks.

I was surprised a couple of years back..by a vauxhall insignia 1.9 cdti hire car that I was given for the week.

I was surprised that in this day an age, a main stream company still turn out such utter shite!
It had 19" wheels on it, but even with the width of them tyres, it never really wanted to go round a corner.. Particullarly dodgy in the wet.
Pulling out of junctions, it would bog down horribly, or give it just a tiny bit more throttle/revs and it wanted to spin the wheel and the traction control light was flashing all the time.
A surprisingly terrible car.

A few years back a mate picked up a mk5 RS2000, Out playing one afternoon some old chap rolls up in an MG Montego. Mate starts to give it the beans only for the lights to turn and the MG sod off into the distance.

PMSL I had an SRi Insignia and was also surprised how utterly shit it was. If I get offered one as my new company car I shall politely decline the offer

If you are destroyed by a Volvo s60 it beggers belief who you can beat . You really have no idea what a car with real Power can do have you. Take on anything thats comical how old are you.

It appears I am being misunderstood here Rod. I don't have a fast car, therefore if I line up next to a faster car, I am NOT SURPRISED if I get beaten. I do appreciate seeing a fast car getting used, and most fast car owners are happy to give it some and not be so far up there own arse that they look down on others. Admittedly I have not driven or been a passenger in any really fast car, but have witnessed a good few in action over the years. Among my favorites are the Reyland Escort, SCS Escort and most recently the mk3 Escort of wenny. I am aware your Sierra is incredibly fast having seen a couple of vids, but I am yet to witness it do anything at a track or drag strip. Relax man.

I was once in my MG ZS and got done my a Nissan note... proper quick cars

I was overtaking a few cars to get past a lorry in my Fiesta st and i know its not proper fast but still gets past things quick-ish when they are goin 45-50, so as i get past 2-3 cars a Nissan pulsar just pulls out and BOOM! Gone! I was giving it everything and he was just gone!

These are fucking quick Montego turbo's (they look just like any other montego) same as maestro turbo would say these and Nissan thunderbird turbo's!

The reason no one see Montego turbo is 1. Not a lot were made and 2. If you think Lancia's were bad for rust if you ever owned one of these you'd be shocked my ma used to have one in red

I had a green Metro GTI..... With a MG-F 160vvc lump in it....

I can honestly say I had more fun in it than I ever did in my e46 M3

Leaving a CRX behind 4up was very amusing

Some bloke in a e39 BMW with his trophy girlfriend looked at us and laughed, lights went green, left him standing, next set of lights he wouldn't look at us but his bird was in stitches.

It looked like a shed but went really well, Still had the original 1.4 box so would hit the rev limiter in 5th!

I remeber them being rated the fasted 4 door saloon of the era but it was still a suprise to me mate who just spent 5k on his "RS".

I once had a race with a MG metro in my old mk2 fiesta and was rather swiftly despached
.. into a hedge as speed soon outweighed talent

Back in 90's I pulled up at a set of lights on the a33 leaving Southampton in my 230bhp turbo technics capri next to a 3.0 supra turbo which was in the outside lane, its 3 lanes that then filter into 2. A beaten up beige mini pulled up along side me on the inside and when the lights changed it left us both for dead. At the next set of lights when we caught up with it, he was turning right and just looked over, gave us the thumbs up with a big smile and f*cked off!
Don't know what he had under the bonnet but all he had was a sticker in the back window, "you've just been mini'd!"
