Default buying a car with no reg plates

i know how this sounds and i should walk away but....

car for sale, been off the road 5yrs. guy cant find the v5. no problem really

the car has a chassis plate and part plate on the floor due to corrosion but no number plates.

the guy cant mind the reg of it. he told me a date of registration the he sourced online off the chassis number dont know how that works either

he recons i can apply for a v5 with just the chassis and they will tell me the reg???

i tried ford with the chassis but no info can up on it

DVLA are useless and will not help!

Your best bet is to pay for an HPI check and use the chassis number, the results should come back showing the registration number and with that you can apply for a log book

Do the numbers in the floor look ok? Or as someone messed with it. Any markings on the windows??

As above, trade hpi check will find it for you. I bought an xr2 hillclimb car with no reg plates on it, just chassis no. and a trade hpi check found me the number.
