I have a 89 xr4x4 2.9. At the moment it has a healthy sized hole in the sump. I'm finding it really hard to find a replacement. I have however found one on ebay. But he tells me that unless its the exact same part number it won't fit even tho its off a 2.9 4x4. Is this true?

I thought all sierra and granada 2.9 4x4 engines where the same with same sump.

i've got 2 here you can have for free

the 2.8 won't fit properly as you will need the 2.8 diff and the dohc one won't fit as it's not the same engine at all

not sure which ones mine are from but you are welcome to them, if only to clear some space in the garage, i was going to bin them on saturday as well

most 2.9 granadas were 2wd,although you did get a 4x4

if it is a 2.9 4wd then it won't matter if it's fitted to a sierra or a granada

i've got one 2.9 and one dohc version by the looks of it
