Default Non intercoolered tdi

Bought the wife a fusion tdi but there is a glaring absence under the bonnet
No cooler!
Im wondering Would it be beneficial to add a small one, will be simple to fit at the front panel before the alt
Can't do any harm huh

It's a 1.4 tdci, it'll break no matter what you do.

Best not to cool the air down though, will coagulate the egr gunk even quicker

You Are the 1st to say that and many of the others to comment are ford techs and master techs from my old dealers but yeah that's great

If the almighty master techs have already spoken then why not follow there advice? Why ask on a forum on mainly weekends tinkerers?

Heaven forbid someone from ford R&D comes along and gives an educated opinion.

In those years of the fusion/fiesta B platform, it was an interim solution bought from PSA, as all we had was a transit diesel and the 1800 from a mk4 escort van. We didn't have te time to start from scratch and do a small diesel to compete with the gm/fiat group, vag etc. I can't say too much, but we've done a lot since we first got it.

This engine iirc comes from the same family that the 1.6 tdci comes from and that is well known to be bad news so I'm not sure which Ford master techs you spoke to. Other than that, for such a small capacity engine, I would probably bang on a remap for a bit more poke and mpg. Faffing about with an intercooler is probably more trouble than its worth unless you have one knocking about. It might upset it also having to flow air through a cooler rather than being fed straight into the inlet.

I'm not fussed on poke as it only does the school run but indeed I do have a few coolers and pipe work to do it
But I ask because thee could be a reason why it would be a bad thing, more mpg is no bad thing, sadly I don't think it have a trip computer as I've pressed every button altho looking thru old reports they say all have them bar the style but this one is a fusion 2
Anyways...

ask your master tech's if they've ever had any problems with turbo's or oil feed's or low oil pressure?

I could but they said all they ever repair is injector seals
Don't get humpy I can only pass on what I'm told and only a few days ago I got glowing reports on here too
I could chose another car say vauxhall nope gear boxes are Shite maybe vag nah turbos and plenty more
Damn maybe I can't buy a faultless car for a grand but jeez I had excellent reports before I got it and am pleased now but have questions so change your pants and have a smile

i would think an intercooler would be good to cool the charge and allow more fuel into the mix with denser air and make it go a bit better.
if the turbo is a bit oily inside then it may make a bit more of a sticky mess in the inlet/egr area though.
