hi guys dont know if this has been asked before but ive heard that a masda mx5 6 speed gearbox will go onto a duratec and if so what clutch/flywheel combo would it need ?this is going in a mk2 escort any help would be great cheeRS

Not sure of this but a mate of mine is putting a duratec in a Mk2 Escort and he has been told the Mazdz engine and gearbox sits at an angle so I do not think it is possible as obviously if it does the gear stick would not be straight

Pretty sure the second generation mx5 uses the 2 litre duratec engine, but has uprated internals like forged crank etc.

The duratec/Mzr was a joint venture by ford and mazda if i remember correctly. Cannot imagine they use a different bell housing pattern.

Got to use the MX5 mk3 5-speed gearbox on the duratec

You can buy an adapator to fit a Type-9 'box on a Duratec from
Retroford Ltd.

I think they do sit at a slight angle but not enough to worry about - the Honda S2000 does the same thing.


Dave College of Retroford Ltd uses a Mazda MX5 gearbox in his 10-second Mk2 Escort Estate.
