Hi all,
An interesting one for you, which I've never heard of.I have got a myself a new car (bmw) and still have my original car (clio). I have transferred my insurance onto the bmw.
A week or so before I purchased the bmw the missus car (206) decided it didnt want to play ball anymore so she transferred her insurance onto the clio so that once I got the bmw she would be able to get around.
She is getting the tax back off of the 206 as (stupidly) it cant be taxed and not insured.
We were at her parents last night and her dad said as I'm the registered keeper I have to be insured on it, even if only as a named driver.
I've never heard of this before, I thought registered keeper was rather immaterial.
Thoughts on the above please.I did a quick google last night but it was mainly results of people asking if they can insure when not the keeper, which we know you can.
Cheers

She told the insurance company that im the registered owner. Her policy should be fine. But her dad was saying that I need a policy on it or be named on hers.
So how does it work with finance agreements where the vehicle stays registered to the lender.....

Sod knows mate I've learnt something new ill keep an eye on this thread! Always thought the insurance was void if you weren't the registered keeper if not a named driver.

The registered keeper has nothing to do with the owner. The V5's even state this very clearly these days.
So if any insurance company were to try and challenge anything...would be hard to see how their challenge would stand.

Used to swap insurance each year on the car as both my ex and I had full no claims. Insurance didn't bat an eyelid. Iirc they said they only have concern when the registered keeper is a teenager and the insured is middle aged. Had a couple of bumps, well she did as she couldn't drive for shit, was never a problem.
