Never really considered a Cosworth before I was 50 I liked sports cars. Was out with my son discussing building my next fast car back in 1996, he suggested a Sierra Cosworth as he had been a fan since we went to the launch in 1987 he was very young then but he was a great fan & i agreed with him they are the best looking & a real icon, love White ones. I was a Lotus/TVR fan but I start to look, went in a couple of 3doors & simply didnt like them to me a saloon had 4 doors only Sports cars could get away with 2 & i still have that view. Wanted RWD so decided to look at the Sapphire model & they fitted the bill so i took the plunge after seeing a rather nice example. 360BHP was claimed but it was nearer 300bhp & not really on the pace of my modified Lotus but i liked it. Went for a ride in Mark Sheads 545bhp monster RS500 in 1999 & knew that was the performance i craved. Owned the old girl for nearly 17 years now think its outdated in almost all respects now but the Cosworth badge is still respected & its a real adrenaline junkie car when you really open it up.
It will be my only Cosworth but im glad ive owned one.

Rod did think the 3dr feels a bit vague and the saff feels more sure footed? and i think the 4x4 just feels heavy.

Still all are very good tho.

Rod - did you not consider a Lotus Carlton? Thought that would be a more obvious choice?

My only drive, was my cousins 4x4 saph back in about 2002. Was riding past his garage as he was outside and started talking to him about it, and he said "fancy a go?" then said " just don't crash it!" Loved it! Drove it round to where all my mates lived but no-one was in!! He had a escort cossie for about 6months last year and he's had a black 3dr for about 15 years and only had it on the road for the first year! There's no way I'll ever be able to afford my own cossie but they are on my lotto list!

They feel a bit tighter with front and rear strut braces but after driving all types i really like the saff 2wd out of them all shame it don't have the looks but stealth is good

I brought a 2wd saff with the engine in bits in the boot . After been sat for 7 months a finished rebuilding the car the its 372bhp spec took it for a first drive. I shat myself ! Going from a mk5 rs2k. Wat a kick in the back . It got addictive. And to top it off it was a proper sleeper.

first experience was walking past stapletons of stevenage ford dealership when i was 4, there was a white 3 door sitting on the ramps outside with balloons attached to its mirrors, just fell in love instantly. then seeing the btcc at the birmingham super prix the sound and smells are unforgetable. first drove my mates stage 3 3door in 2003, i had a xr2 at the time and the cos was just mind blowingly fast. i bought my first saph in summer 2009, was cheap but not in the best condition, had usual stage 3 tune and spent most of its life in my hands sideways. i'd love a 3 door but that a lotto win away now

Default My 1st cossie

I remember my 1st cossie ride, a good friend of mine came into some money & bought tony manocks (turbo systems) demo car, 2wd white sapphire over 500 bhp he took me out in it....it was insane, I got out & my legs were shaking & that was 14 yrs ago!!!! Hence 10 yrs ago I bought my 1st ford & yes it was a sapphire 4x4 in white & I still have it with only 60k on it,it's mint condition & ill never sell it

1996... Old man was running a Group A Escos in the north England championships. Had a test day at the then disused finningly and spent all day in the passenger seat. The speed and sounds were out of this world!
