Default xr4x4 to 2wd

As above I have an 89 xr4x4 and want to convert it to rwd. I have a dohc mt75 , 2wd hubs , tca's , capri 2.8 sump and all the needed fluids and gaskets .

Is there anything else I need to complete the conversion?

I think the 4x4 ARB will kick the wheels to far forward into the arch. Someone can confirm i'm sure.

I'm not sure on the flywheel and clutch hence the " ? "

2wd front shocks, prop shaft, starter motor.

not sure if you have to change subframe if you do then you'll need 2wd power steering rack and engine mounts to match subframe

I have all 2wd sus to go on. Don't know why u would need the subframe has nothing to do with the sump

If you know so much why did you ask?

Bell housing? DOHC starter? MT75 box doesnt have a bell housing and at Type 9 starter is different again!

The DOHC gearbox won't fit it. You'll need a hybrid box made with the V6 front case/bellhousing and the DOHC back end. It'll be a full strip job to swap it over, with special tools. You'll also need the gearbox mount. The speedo cable for RWD MT75 will also be needed, the 4x4 takes off from the front driveshaft flange.

As also said, you'll need the propshaft, RWD ABS ECU (if you have ABS) and the RWD ARB as it is shorter than the 4WD version. Not sure if the RWD lower arms will fit into the 4x4 cross member, if they don't then you'll need the RWD cross member, steering rack and engine mounting arms as well.

With the gears from a 4x4 cossie box for the ratio if i remember correctly

Or the other option is to buy a T5 box and the after market belll housing.

4wd mt75 is a 3 piece box . 2wd is a two piece box.

4wd starter is 2 bolt and 2wd starter is 3 bolt.

Xr4x4 and 4x4 cosworth share the same box and diffs so be same ratios

Using the 4wd arb will push wheel foward resulting in more caster .as car going to be used for some sideways that will the ok

And nobody was talking about the type 9 box as wouldn't last long

4x4 starter is 3 bolt. Just changed mine. Gearboxes are not interchangeable. Bellhousings are different. Why go to all the bother of changing the front suspension? Just split the driveshafts and bolt the outer cv's in, then dump the diff.

mt75 is not a 3 piece box mate,bellhousing is moulded 1 cast

t5 box is 3 piece, bellhousing, rear end and centre which holds everything.

and an xr4x4 sump is not a sealed unit like the cosworth ie if you remove front diff and crossshaft it will spill all its engine oil where as a cosworth 4x4 1 wont

hard to get hold of but you want a 2wd mt75 gearbox from a 2.4 or 2.9 granada,as said hard to find as most were autos

For the suspension If your 2wd stuff fit the whole lot. The cross member may look the same but the TCA is in a different position for 2wd and 4wd.

I have a mix of 2wd and 4wd but you need to mess about to make it work, as you will find the TCA's will jam up on the cross member.
I have adjustable topmounts and TCA's
Your right you need more caster but be careful how its done.

You will keep the starter from the 4x4 if you do the hybrid box. Everything from the middle of the gearbox to the prop needs to be Dohc.

Also uprate the engine mounts as they dont last long, mine are now solid tube.

4 cylinder starter is 3 bolt V6 is 2 bolt.

Just taking the diff out of the front doesnt work you need to weld up the center diff or fit the 2wd box.
