My dad had a saff in 1992. You couldn't insure them so they were in a grey area in the market. Not cheap but not as expensive as they should've been. I was 6 and it used to make my stomach turn when he booted it and I couldn't lift my head forward from the seat. I loved that feeling of being pinned back in the seat. Can't beat that memory

12years ago, my fella (use that term loosely) at the time bought a moonstone saph, I think it was a 2wd and i drove it.
Cant remember much, except coming out of Chester one night and he told me to drop it to 3rd and boot it!! I did, but backed off rather quickly as it was a 30mph road!
Im not sure if I'd even passed my test yet, think I probably had, but only just if I had. I know I fell in love with mr2s before I'd passed, and I learnt to drive in a mk 3 xr3i cabby that had the mk4 front end. Also practiced my driving in another xr3i cabby, mk 4 xr3i, mk5 xr3i, a s2 RS turbo, xr2i, a probe and a few other standard fords.
(I was insured to drive them under the fellas traders policy, apparently. I believed that at the time)

I remember my dad pointing out a sierra cosy on the Isle of Wight around 15 year ago and it always stuck as a badass car watching it burst off down the back roads.
I've sat in a escort once and that's as close as I've come.
Proper cossie virgin.

My dad bought an escos when I was about 14. We went down to Preston to see it and we met the guy at a petrol station before following him to his house, but he asked me if I wanted to sit in the passenger seat on the road back. Massive grin. Could seriously not wait till the week after when we went back to collect it. Brilliant trip home.

First time driving one was my dads second escos, imperial blue small turbo. He gave me a cheeky wee shot the day he got it, then I waited till he was drunk one night and jokingly asked him if I could take it a spin. To my surprise he said "aye but don't tell your mum" Think I raced everything that was going that night! Even a Suzuki swift looking over at the lights Oh to be young and stupid!!!!!

He bought a Mk1 FRS after that, he bought it with 2000 miles on it, sold it with 5000, I did 2000 of them

Been quite lucky my dads into his RS's! I've been watching him and he's been keeping his eye on Mk2 FRS's, so fingers crossed!!

Got taken out in a Stage 3 Escos when I was 17 or so. Remember being fascinated by the standard boost gauge going off the scale.

Then my mate bought a Stage 3 RWD Saff and I had one a few years later.

My first ever experiance was when i was 16 i worked for rapid fit for a few months and the owner of the ford dealership had an escort cossie. Then i can always remember seeing a smart woman putting petrol on a magenta saff at a fuel station and thought it was cool that a woman was driving the saff.

1990. Test driving what was to become my 3dr.
Came off a roundabout and gave it some beans, only to have to stand on the anchors the next second as we'd caught up with a little Fiat 126 so quickly I almost rear-ended it!
the deal was done shortly after, £15k was exchanged and it's still with me now.
Remember picking it up from the dealer a few days later and driving through town feeling on top of the world

I've always wanted a Cossie ever since the touring car days! Loved watching them!

My first taste of driving a Cossie was when I worked at a Ford dealer. We had a ST Escort come in for some work. The workshop controller knew I loved RS's and Cossies so he let me work on it!

I had to road test it after so got it out on the road and it was so fucking slow, I couldn't believe it! I was so unimpressed with it! It did look the part though!

It was a test drive. I had no clue it was tuned The seller told me this later. He said only drive it, it is all standard. After the test drive he told me grinning that's tuned to around 350 HP. I was hooked there and then.

ever since my very first fair fair I attended in the early 90s, drove up in my capri thinking whats all the fuss about so parks up in this field with all the others from john hills CCI as it used to be back then, then in rolls the cossie boys in their couple of year old saphs then I was on a mission to get one, until that point I was into V8s as my 2nd home was santa pod, had a 2wd & 4wd in my time and simply moved on after that

I'd never been in a cossie, but fancied one. It was the ultimate car after all !!
In 2004 I px'd my golf vr6 againsed my 2wd, I remember only doing 1500 miles or so in 6 months, but I had 2 pairs of rear tyres in that time !! Was an 89' stage 3 2wd in white. Bet it's rotted away by now, as it wasn't the tidiest.

Back in the early 90's, when the insurance was mega bucks, my dad had a 2wd saff, think he only paid 5grand for it, not bad for a 2 year old car! He then got his Escos, was going to buy his saff, but ended up going for a 4x4 saff.

heres the exact car

if i hadnt been introduced to an r32 gtr id probably still be driving cossies now.

My first cossie experience was when I was a lad, I rode my bike down to the local shop, there was a black 3 door parked outside with the engine running. His tape player was on full blast then it just started playing this horrible squealing like the tape was stretching or something. Owner came legging it out of the shop to turn it off LOL

First escos visual exp: the "driven by you" advert. Nearly 20yrs ago. FUUUCK!!!

First escos practical exp: Went a drive in one that belonged to a mate of a mate, and i remember he took off so hard that i physically couldnt lean ever so slightly in the seat to get a decent position to put my seatbelt on!! Lol. That was nearly 12yrs ago!!!

First sierra visual exp: Seen the Police getting out of one and at the time my dad had a 1.6lx hatch sierra and i remember asking him why the police sierra had "a tail". And he told me it was because it was a "cosworth". Thats when i first learned the existance of cosworth. From then every sapphire i seen was a "cosworth" - i was literally about 6-7yrs old. Bless!!

First sierra practical exp: about 8years ago picking one up for a body shop with a friend and him taking a detour up a back road home and started doing donuts!!

Had a few coming through work but never worked on them or drove them. Then got the chance to service an Escort Cosworth and i was grinning ear to ear. It was lue and standard with 18inch 6 spoke Rondall alloys and looked the bollocks! Took it out to test and was so disappointed in the lack of power. But the looks i was getting from other drivers made up for it! Would love to drive a decent spec one. Look the aggressive look of the Escorts and 3 doors.

Amen to that! Got quoted £3.5k a year for a 30 year old with a clean licence in 1991
Couldn't afford that, and couldn't give it away either. The car sat in my mum's garage until 1995, only getting started up a couple of times a year.
Took it out in 95 when the insurance was a bit more reasonable and I had a bit more cash to spare, rebuilt the engine and away we went. Now on classic car insurance at £150 a year

Not a real cossie but a 4i i got from a guy at work everything was cossie except the front brakes the rear was bigger lol. Paid £1500 for it drove it home less than a mile rang a mate up went for a blast at all of 17psi for about 10 mins then stuck it in the garage and ripped the engine out for my cortina that was 1999. I then got myself a saff for my 30th birthday.
