Default vag 1.9 tdi or 2.0 tdi

hello my mum and dad are looking for a passat tdi or a audi a4 avant tdi and looking to spend around £5k, looking at the cars at this price there seems to be both 1.9 and 2.0 tdi engines, i know there are a few types in terms of bhp but which is the more reliable engine out the two? ive been told the 1.9 tdi 130 bhp is best? is this true? cheers

1.9 pd if you can matey, far better than the newer 2.0 dervs

1.9 130ps with the 6 speed is what you want, just make sure a good service history is there and enjoy

My old company car was 1.9tdi, when new was great but after 3 years felt very tired.
Current car is 2.0tdi, 6 speed gearbox. Seems a lot more responsive and 2 years on is as good as the day I got it.
Certainly notice the difference in the power too

A few of my mates are well into VAG's and they say to avoid the 2.0 and get a late 1.9pdi 130 if possible, much more reliable and better on fuel.

the 2 litres are prone for injector problems(but vag are now doing a warranty on these)
but expensive if you need to foot the bill, around 2 grand s+f for all 4,
the older 1,9's are much better for my experience

1.9tdi's are bulletproof compared to the 2.0's. I'd always have the 1.9 over the other, and still have one, brilliant engines

Another vote on the 1.9 pd.
My mums done over 100k in the 6yrs she's had her Ibiza FR and its never ever missed a beat. In fact, it's never needed any repairs.

Only happened to the 2.0 8v engine fitted to the people carriers, and was the early engines too.

But still wouldnt buy a 16v over the 8v diesel.

Not just the people carriers. A colleague had it happen to his passat too. Lucky he shut down the engine quick enough and very little damage was done so the engine was saved. Nothing to stop it happening again though.
