Default Any extra maintenance required for an auto over a manual car?

As title, my dad is getting an auto car at the weekend and i just wondered do they need any extra maintenance over a manual? i cant imagine so but just asking as ive never owned an auto so wouldnt have a clue.

Obviously it wont have any clutch fluid to top up so thats a bonus

It probably works out the same. Although harder on the brakes there is no clutch to change.

I really enjoyed having an auto, great for town. Although a few times I hit the brake pedal as if it was the clutch

I have had a couple of auto's and you need to make sure the gearbox oil is of good condition and correct level as an auto box works off oil pressure and will not work at its optimum if either are not correct. Other than that its great especially around town and in traffic.

as above, do a gearbox oil service on it straight away unless you know 100% its been done recently.

dont over fill the autobox, make sure you use the correct grade. Most auto's require you to check the level with the engine running but in neutral.

As said they are heavier on fuel and harder on brakes, due to no engine braking, and slower.

Also in the case of a modern one I imagine if they do go wrong they are a lot of money to repair due to being computerised.

+1

as said no clutch to wear out! it is a viscous coupling!

they are a lot easyer to drive around town in rush hour too... less stressful!

Pipe and slippers next! With more and more journies now ending up in sitting in traffic there's really no point having a manual. Mk4 mondeos like yours are coming down in price so I will probably chop in my banger mk3 for one in the summer!

Indeed pal.

The mk4 has been great. A few teething problems from where I bought it and it has the wrong battery on it but other than that its been spot on. And getting 39mpg about town, could get better but can't be arsed.

What engine have you got in yours? My mk 3 does about 500 miles on a tank of juice, not yet worked out what MPG that is giving me.

2.0 tdci

Prob get about 550. Had the trip read 900 miles left once after filling up and straight onto motorway at 65-70.

I'd say usually about 650 ish. It doesn't like performance diesel for some reason though.

That's pretty good, how much does it cost you to fill up? I presume it's got the same size tank as mine?
