Default So then, is 170psi too much compression on a RS turbo?

Here's me all chuffed that the build i have done is spot on, now i'm being told that 170psi on each cylinder is too much for an RS turbo?

Whats the crack? And does compression actually have anything to do with the compression ratio?

Any help appreciated as always

Sounds too much if you've built a low compression engine. Think a turbo cvh should be 130-140psi in good standard condition.

Is it not totally dependant on the exact cc of the engine?

Its important they are all the same or within a few psi of each other. Are you using an accurate compression tester, is it a good make?

Was the tuning guy that told me what they were...so i don't know what make or anything

Reckons they are all excellent, within a few psi of each other.

I tested a worn (see well run in) standard S1 a while ago and saw on average 150psi across all 4.
Something worth noting is check your valve timing, if you are far too advanced this could give a false reading at cranking speeds due to inlet valve closing earlier and sealing off sooner which would give the cylinder more air to compress.

Once written by Karl.....

"A std ERST engine will give between 150 and 160psi. The same engine with a performance long duration cam will give around 140 to 150psi.

A low comp ERST engine of say 7.3:1 could be as low as 120psi with a big cam.

These are just indicative Psi readings and not to be taken as gospel as I do not want people to be guessing their C.R based on a compression result!!!

These figures are what MY engines give.
