What's the pro's/con's of each?
I'll be making my own soon for a 1.7 Puma but unsure which to go for, and what diameter tube to use?
Ben.

So there are performance differences, cheers!
Yeah I've found plenty but I love making things myself, we've got a pipe bender etc at work anyway.
Thanks.

i think a 4-2-1 brings the peak down and makes for a better spread of power.
4-1 pushes peak further up and maybe worth a couple of horsepower at the expense of driveabilty. its all relative with a well designed system though. btw dont qoute me on the above but im fairly sure thats the rule of thumb.

4-1 primarily for track use when you're at the top of the rev range more. I'd personally use a 4-2-1 manifold.
Also, just welding any bits of old pipe together and hoping for the best isnt really going to work well lol. Manifolds can gain, or lose you power if poorly designed. You need to think about scavenging, port sizes, lengths, diameters etc. I was going to make some manifolds for a car I once owned as the standard log ones were poor, and its ALOT of work to get right.
