I guess it's personal preference. I'd say the other party is getting the best deal!!! Whatever 'does it for you' though

import?

if so, IIRC you need to have them mapped for UK fuel otherwise it can cause fueling/ lean issues. or you have to run them on 99 ron fuel all the time

seen loads with rattling bottom ends but that would be obvious to spot/hear

check insurance costs, the imports can be very expensive. They are a good car but getting old now and unfortunately ruined by the chav image, people will presume you are a bit of a yobbo if you drive one. I know which car I'd have out of the two, and it isn't the impreza!

i'd have the impreza all day long,
but again thats due to personal choice
if its an old 1 then check for rust on rear arches etc
gearboxes get noisy and crunch gears(costly to repair, cheaper to replace)
engines knock for fun etc(if it does again cheaper to replace than repair)
as an everyday runner they're not to bad realy
you get a lot of car for your money(but same can be said for the v6 mondeo)
as said if its an import or been mapped for power then run it on super all the time
pull well, handle good and they're realy good in the bad weather(snow heavy rain etc)

I went from a mondeo ST24 to a UK MY2000 scooby about 7 years ago. Found the running costs similar, insurance wasn't much difference. Scooby was a lot better car, interior felt cheaper than the mondeo. Onlysold it as we needed a third 3 point seat belt in the back

I just bought my pops a 2002 wrx prodrive wagon, and as much as I have allways hated them I have to say its a fantastic car for the money and can't think of much else in the price bracket that would better it for performance or drive ability.
