think they are called c-tek

best by miles apparently

my halfords one was good for about 2 years and then it started to not work as it should have done

but the c-tek is a little trickle charger/battery conditioner so it charges when it needs charge and then stops when it don't, if you see what i mean

Get a normal battery charger plugged into a timer switch and have it come on for say ten mins a day

I have a ctek, they are great bits of kit, my one does multi stage charging and even came with crocodile clips and/or permanent connectors so you can easily swap between vehicles.
Also, it is so small which has come in handy leaving securely in engine of vehicle outside overnight, no hope doing that with my old box type charger.

Are the solar ones any good? I've thought about something to keep my battery tip top while it's laid up over the winter but have no power in my garage.

how do these work then, they just keep the battery power topped up?

also while on subject, why in a basic/standard charger manual would they say you have to dissconnect battery from car before charging?

I have a CSI Airflow ( the same people that do the Carcoons ) one that I bought in 99. It's been great. My last battery lasted from before 1999( not sure how long it had been on car already ) to 2010 ( the bad winter ), so somewhere over 11 years which seems a good life for a battery - I forgot to connect it up after a drive on a very cold day and the car sat like that for about 3 weeks in the -18 temps we had. I think the inactivity killed that battery but if it had been left on charge it would still be fine. Who knows though?
Anyway, I think it was about £30 back in 99 so I'm sure it has saved me the cost of a battery over the years

I've got one of these on the Orion.

Look at this on eBay:
