Great engine and surprising economical.
Always thought the cav drove better than the Astra.

Check the head. If its not a 'cos cast' then it will have a water pipe in it that can carode giving head gasket symptoms

I had a red top in my nova years ago and loved it, I had a mk3 astra gsi with a red top after that and never had a bit of bother with either of them.

Had a red top cav and was one of the best cars I've had. Went really well, never broke down and averaged about 40mpg all the time. Do it you'll love it

I sold my mint (time warp) calibra redtop today, although only owned for 3 months bought for a winter car i was sad to see it go, still cant believe the condition it was for 20yrs old

The wife bloody hated it though.

Very economical and very reliable

Get it fella,a top engine.
Very few issues with the cars either (only rust really),a true statement of how good vauxhalls of that era were and how dismal they became.
40mpg is not a lie either,my cav gsi had a few mods and would do an indicated 150mph no bother (probably about 135!!!!).

didn't know the redtop was in the SRI model....my dad had one in 1988, but thought that was the 8 valve.

if its tidy its worth it, dont see many cavs anymore (all rusted to heaven)

They did a 8v 2.0 sri as I had one and it was a great car had loads of go in it.

I would say if it is in good nick and cheap enough get it.

Great cars, amazed at how economical they are still. Loads of my mates still have them and they never miss a beat.

Had one a few years ago, was a great car. Economical, fast and reliable. Def buy it!

Unfortunately it was nicked and I got it back like this

Pre accident condition was really good and it was a rare colour. Bought a red top calibra after that and although it too was mega reliable it never quite felt as good as the cav
