Mk6 fiesta 1.4 LX semi auto gearbox - should I be wary?
Hi,
I've arranged to go and view a 57k mileage 53 plate fiesta with a semi auto gearbox. My boss is trying to put me off it saying the semi auto box is a cvt and is crap. Is this true? Should I steer clear? I wanted an auto ideally.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

i always stay clear of the semi auto shite, it all tends to be utter rubbish especially in small cars, i cant comment on this particular model, but as a general rule i avoid them
someone asked me my advice on a c3 semi auto, i told them not to bother but he bought it anyway and guess what happened........he ended up scrapping it

The box is just an ib5 with motors operating the gear selection, and a pump/module controlling the clutch. Common for the motors to seize and then cause the module to short out.
In fact had to fit some today. Ł450 to have them repaired (without the labour to remove/install/program up), would be Ł2k for new replacements parts.
I personally would avoid them

Ok, I heeded both your advice and gave it a miss. I went for a test drive and when I was pulling away from stationary, if I didn't give it enough gas, there would be a loud clunk from the wheel area. The owner passed it off as not being a problem, and just needing to get used to driving it. But I wasn't so sure! Gonna look for a manual I think!
