GUTTED,the engine on my 100E has blown up!!!*UPDATE PICS*
Words can't express how I'm feeling at the moment to say I am totally gutted and numb is an understatement.
I picked the 100E up from the paintshop this morning after having the accident damage from croft in 2003 repaired, the car has been in the paint shop for over a year, the car had no mot so took it for one , it passed ok, the engine at this point felt fine.
About 2 miles from home as I was traveling in traffic at 30mph, I heard the sound of crushing metal( the same as that video of the guy racing the M3 in america when he grenades the engine ) I tried to switch off but it's already shutdown, massive amounts of smoke from the rear of the car ,I coasted to a halt and sat there wanting to cry!!
Got the car towed to my sisters garage where it's kept, and will over the next few days take the head off to see whats happened, I am certain tho that it has dropped the head off a valve but don't know yet if anything in the engine is salvageable, bearing in mind it has a complete cosworth bottom end and an ultra big valve head this is going to be costly
The cambelt is still intact so it wasn't that snapping.
I was just about to post my application for the croft trackday aswell, thats now totally out the window.
I will update with pics when the heads off.
regards,
A very very pissed off steve

Well took the cam cover off tonight and found that number 4 inlet valve is bent ,I suspect the head has fallen of this and caused chaos in the cylinder. As the piston pushed the valve up in the head it has caused the cam pad to snap, least it wasn't the cam snapping! I took the spark plug out to be greeted by a mashed tip unsuprisingly!!
I couldn't get anything down the cylinder to check the piston due to access problems, I will take the head off at the weekend to see the full extent of the carnage, one thing I can't understand is I could only find 1 valve collet in the top so either it has fallen down the oilway or it wasn't there in the first place

When a vlave failed on mine it was so jammed into the head we couldn't get it out again. Gave up trying and decided to treat myself to a posh new one and pop a cam in while I was there
