Default How much should I band my steelies by? (also need photoshop experts please)

Hi Guys,

We've just got a new facility at college which can x-ray welds and can check they will be strong enough.

Because of this and the fact ive got a spare set of 13" ford steelies, im going to have a crack at banding mine. Im thinking of just putting 2" extra on the outside, and then stretching the tyre? what do you guys think? I can't really go more then that on the outside or the rim would be outside of the arch which is an MOT failure.

If anyone on here is good with photoshop would appreciate it, if you could photoshop some banded steelies on here, both in white and black if possible

Cheers in advance

Toby

You will struggle to get an extra 2" in there IMO.
I like banded steels on the right car, and that isn't a mk3 fiesta.
Plus I think it will be more difficult than you think.

If you want to keep steelies why not just fit 15" Mondeo steelies? Can appreciate you want to try a new toy out but there's stuff available for sod all cash that will be cheaper and likely work better.

And don't stretch the tyres, it's fucking retarded

Stretched tyres are gayer than a night at Michael Barrymore's house.

As above, just get 15'' mondeo steelies..much cheaper

Slaming it, whilst not retarded is also not a good idea. It'll drive like crap and suspension arms will last about as long as a teenage virgin back stage at a Gun's N Roses concert. Any more than a 35mm drop is a no no mate.

This was my old XR2i lowered 55m on 15's, I thought it was brilliant until I swapped to a 30mm drop and I very quickly realised how shit it was at -55mm. You'll have to excuse the colour coded wipers, sun visor and M3 mirrors, it was a good few years ago.

30mm all round, drove and handled so much better. Not quite as much peak cornering grip but you could push it so much harder as it didn't try to bounce off the road at the first sign of a bump. Avo springs are a good spring generally.
