Default Mini Cooper D 62plate discussion.

ive been looking for a new car and came up with one of these.
ive got a really good deal and the car im looking at has the CHILI pack and the wheels i want etc, its £16K and has although been registered to the dealer, only done 165 miles.

does anyone have one or know about them?
i havent bought it yet, but am thinking about it.
The 74mpg combined is bringing me in!

any light shared is appreciated!

Ive got a good freind who says they are fantastic and he is a very good driver who has owned lots of performance cars. Belive it or not he used his mrs's cooper d clubman on the handling track at a rotary day at santa pod and came second overall for the whole day! He beat all sorts of quick stuff

im also going to look at the DriveE volvo s40/c30 as well as the bluemotion golf and polo. all do 70+mpg combined, in fact the polo does 80 apparently. Free tax and low insurance etc. it all seems fairly appealing.
my worry is the volvo will depreciate really quick and the golf/polo will be boring as beige.

the Mini does handle really nicely, i test drove one just after i posted and liked it!

i have one as a loaner while the scenic gets paint
i deffo wouldnt buy one
its clear they want it to drive like an odl mini and it does, every bump and lump you feel, tracks like a fiesta on 18's

the bizarre speedo and daftness for teh sake of it too!!
we have a 2012 special edition (are any not spec ed?) and it has some cool touched like london skyline on dash etc but i woudlnt want it, missus wanted to swap it for something else because its bad to drive as we live in the sticks
she is calling every say to get her 2000 scenic back lol
my neighbours mum hates hers too but cant afford to get shot of it with the finance and all

but it is quick for a little car dunno about mpg but its pretty high, ill be out in it tomorrow collecting some wheels LOL

the course being not wanting to go further than an hours drive?
fair to say it does what it does but getting saddled with a car you took a 10 min test drive in is no good
its faster than the 1.2 2012 fiesta i had last month but then i did a few 2 hour plus journeys and was pretty comfi (except my foot being flat more of the time to get up the hills)

correct me if im wrong but peugeot engine`d diesel yes?

do a few miles and pay the bills, not good!

these are/were stricken with shocking reliability of oil carbonization that destroyed anything from injectors to turbocharger and oil pumps and feed/return pipes.

check out the warranty remover/clean/replace noted on any 1.4/1.6/1.8 pug TD engined Ford, Volvo, Pug, Mini etc, shocking shocking engines matey

stay well clear

They really want the Oil changing inbetween the service dates and this seems to help with the problems mentioned above.

The 70+mpg isnt really real unless your sat at 56mph on the motorway all day. 60mpg works out at about the average if you do mixed driving, alot of town stuff and they do drop quite a bit.

cabonizing stems from injectors allegedly!

for warranty you need to strip the motor and clean all the oilways on the block and replace oil pump lol

i am told the dealers ford/volvo/mini just replace units.

shocking

TBH I think the Diesel is a sausage gobblers car, it doesnt have any poke like the others, but the OP clearly wants high MPG so it fits the brief, my £16k wouldnt go there for a frugal new diesel

The OP isn't buying a WRC mini, and no ford blinkers here. Any bloke who owns a new mini is either gay or wants to be gay

I have a Berlingo van with the same diesel engine as the Mini.....

3 turbos in 4000 miles and each time the works was carried out by the book, sump off and cleaned, new oil pump, injectors out and cut and reseated etc etc etc. Current turbo is on 2000 miles so fingers crossed it's ok.

The annoying thing is that it has an oil change every 5000 miles with the correct oil and a full service every 10,000 miles..

Decent little cars mate, we used to manage the production line where the inside was assembled, very well made compared to most other manufacturers. Perfect daily car imho.

the diesel is quicker round town than the baby petrol.
i just want a 'fit and forget' kinda car. Im not buying a mini for the looks, its the mpg and resale of it. they dont depreciate fast at all! BUT if they have the kinda service record i may look else where. i want reliability!

The new ones are bmw engines that you get in the 118-120 d's and i work for a bmw/mini dealership i reckon we look after at least 300 of these little cars without changing any turbo's , bear in mind it will be the same engine in the older cars but wont be the same turbo's , i know this fact because my misses has a 57 plate tdci fiesta 1.6 and the turbo is slightly different on that to the mini although same engine in the older cars there are changes bmw/mini have made to its surroundings

The older mini's with the french engine suffer a bit from water pump;s leaking contaminating the belt apart from that there are hardly any spanners near them

No blinkers mate, they are a girls car. I don't care how fast they are or aren't, my opinion is they're gay looking for homosexuals, hairdressers, interior designers or females .
Not even a proper mini IMO, it's a BMW half series.

you talk shite what do you drive ? , i wouldnt own one but at the same point i wouldnt knock them for what they are , the numbers that they sell says it all , The new cooper s/d will give alot of hot hatches a good run for the money delivering good mpg in this day in age thats what people want plus the options availave make them very nice little cars as you can spec your own car ! hence why they are so popular to homo's , hairdressers , females

Have you ever thought maybe he might be gay?

Or people reading this read that are gay, maybe they don't see why they have to be associated with a Mini.

I was answering the question the op asked , people says the engines suffer from turbo failure - not true the new ones use a bmw engine not the french engine , even the french engine dont suffer from turbo failure but will be a bmw/mini speced turbo

The mpg claims are a bit out there but im sure it would be possible to get the claimed but in normal driving it wont be as good , are they good cars Definetly yes

Service packages are good that do you up to 50k miles = perfect warranty is good
