Default Knocking 206

Got a problem i cannot get to the bottom of with a 2002 model Peugeot 206

Replaced drop links - made no difference

Checked wishbones and balljoints but cannot see or feel any play in them.

Basically when you go to pull-away from standstill it will clunk a once or twice, it sounds like someones whacking a hammer on the chassis you can hear and feel the knock through the car, pedals and steering, also if you try pull away in say second or 3rd you will get this same noise as the engine struggles to not stall, but instead of knocking twice is will knock quickly 4 or 5 times, it also knocks and bangs on bumpy roads at low speeds, but once up to speed and out on open roads its quiet as a mouse?

Any ideas?

The gearbox mounts underneath seem tight and appear fine the only one i cant get to is under the ECU but the engine doesnt kick back that much to cause any concern. Sods law as its a part ex im not going to make any money on if i don't cure the issues but I dont want to spend hundreds playing the trial and error game.

Ill look at top mounts and recheck the engine mounts again.

Thanks

money on engine mount, they're prone o snapping, but you don't notice straight away due to rubbers on sides, if these break away they clunk a lot.

Ive checked the top mount under the ECU, its new still silver but the nut was done up handtight. Ive done it up and its quietened it down a little but its still knocking. Just to add when that mount was taken off, i shook the engine as it was loose and being supported by a trolley jack, and there was no knocking when the engine was being shoved back and forth. Maybe its the lower arms then? Damn thing!

lower arms would make sense if it's under braking or accelerating, not so common on 206's it has to be said in my experience, never changed any in the last four years of owning one.
