Play it turbo shaft
Just replaced the intake pipe on the Vrs for a silicone type and found I have about a 1mm of play in the shaft but no end play an no smoke ,so how much is too much ? think its the original so its done 104 thou and its a ko3s .

small amount of play will be taken up by the oil pressure. if theres no turbo related issues ie smoke then she'll be reet till you can afford a rebuild. i wouldnt reccomend using 2nd hand stuff of that nature as its a lottery. fit and forget an all that.

up and down play is normal, its in and out that can cause problems of the blades hitting the housings etc
obv if the up and down play is excessive then again the blades will touch, but 1mm is fine as the shaft floats on oil
if it boosts and doesnt smoke, leave it the fuck alone! if its not broke, dont fix it!

thanks guys for your replys was not too sure if oil pressure would take up the play and end play is zero so Ill take the advise an leave it the fek alone lol ! but would like to fit a non baffled comp house but thats it !

should be fine.
some play is usually expected as oil will take it up.
what i did find with my gt turbo though was quite a lot of play compared to a T series, however i contacted a garrett dealer and they said it is quite normal on the ball bearing units as the oil is required to cushion the bearings.
