had 2 fiesta st and a focus st225 and loved em but decided to start puttin the sensible head on n sold for something a bit more eco ANYWAY!

got a chance to buy a sierra xr4x4 with the 2.9 v6

just wondering what power they put out and achievable power the can have without turbo's

and is there anything i should look for?

The 2.9 is the better option and will actually make the claimed 150HP, a 2.8 one won't

I believe you can get around 170-180HP from then with induction mods, cam, etc.

guy said its rust free as it just has new sills and a respray also it orginally was the 2.8 but changed for the 2.9 would the gearbox be changed also for the mt75 as a hear thats a lot better or left with the 2.8 box in it

at the moment it has a full exhuast system on it that is all

are they good cars or best off looking else where for a classic ford

Best option is to change the 2.9 12v for a 2.9 24v engine. It gives about 50 bhp more power and is more economical too.

hes looking for 1700 for it with 133k miles on the clock is this reasonable?

They are MT75 as standard.

I personally like Sierra's, I have been brought up with one for the past 18 years, I was always enthused by it, I then learnt about the Cosworth variant, which ultimately led me to the purchase of mine, by that alone I say is a testament to the integrity of the car's (How many other car's survive that long?) nothing major has ever gone wrong on it and only had basic servicing.

All depends what you define by good, alot depends on you as a person as to you liking it or not, bearing in mind the cars you mention you have had, if you like modern cars and safety etc then you won't like it.

Imo so long as you get one that is sound and has been well looked after, it will look after you.

The standard XR4x4 is always a 12v engine. The 24v was only available in the Grananda/Scorpio models, but has been put into Sierras by a lot of people, including me.

this is a replacement 2.9 but not sure what from are the 24v 200bhp then?

a do like my classics as own'd a few other bucket before them there just my lastest decent fords ive had

is there decent power to be made in the 24v engines

This car was a 2.8 and they had the T9 as standard.

Some of the early 2.9s also got the T9 - supply difficulties with the MT75 if I remember correctly, but that box did come in soon after the 2.9 was introduced.

I have the 12v 2.9 in my car and the best thing about it is the noise - the V6 with a K&N induction kit and a Magnex exhaust is just glorious and makes me want to accelarate. Despite that, I got 26mpg on a run up to Skye last week. Haven't done the sums for the whole journey yet.

It isn't the fastest but it goes well enough, partly because the car is a lot lighter than a modern car, and it takes corners beautifully so makes up any ground lost on the straights.

When this engine eventually gives up I hope I can get a 24v to take its place. No sign of that happening any ime soon though!

am not fussed about mpg or that but in kinda comparision what kinda speen wee looking at fiesta st speeds or more

anyone no what times these 1/4 miles in

am not looking for a drag car as for nearly 2k a could pick a dozen better things just looking for a classic ford with a bit of excitment and a friend of my father has offered me this car

I had a 2.9 12v and loved it. They sound great with exhaust and induction kit. Get the RS body Kit (not cosworth) and they look awesome. I put the 24v engine in mine which was fantastic but to be honest the 12v is still good as well. I loved my old XR4x4 even more than my stage 1 saph. It had 4x4 cosworth brakes all round, full heated recaro interior, 170mph cosworth clocks and koni shocks and springs. It was 204bhp:

managed a 17.13 @ 76.7Mph did have a power engineering stainless and some k&n's

Shortly after, I removed the 12v lump and replaced it with a 24v one, sooo much better, never went santapod with it running the 24v tho
