Raises some serious questions:
What about if standard parts are no longer available?
What about non performance mods like parking sensors or a tow bar?
Also,
How would it be enforced?
How many companies would go under as a result?
How many jobs would be lost as a result?

Thats in europe and yes inknow we are part of europe but we dnt follow all there laws and legislation just like we kept the Ł! Take germany sweden they are already very strict on modifying! This is all bollox and what if. This would cause a loss of millions, be a huge revolt and some may not agree with this but if we cant have a hobbie we love then what might it cause people to do eg kids with no social clubs etc go out cause trouble its same in respect all be it most of us are mature adults!

Performance enhancing mods are banned in France too. The Gendamarie hated my saxo vts because they could do fuck all about it having the 4 branch and system, as it was a uk/nireland regd car.
Back to this.......what 1-pd said, the government would lose too much money abolishing mods all together.

They would have to train Police/Vosa as to whats standard and whats not,e.g. say Jap imports with standard 2.5 inch exhausts getting confiscated, where are they going to get their information for standard spec Jap imports etc. It would b e very time consuming exercise.

They've been saying this for years and it simply can't be enforced.
It's illegal to mechanically modify cars in Belgium but when I was over there for a car show owners told me it's just not properly governed/can't be so they modify them anyway.

Buy/register a car out of the UK. Aslong as it leaves the country once every 6 months (Or 12 months, cant quite remember) it's all good.
EDIT: I'm not sure if it's Euope only now I think about it... Still, IF it happens, and if I'm right, just bung some yank plates on and register it at an adress in America. Slip the home owner a few $$$ to keep them sweet and job jobbed

Seems people are getting to the bottom of it now. It WON'T be illegal to modify your car, it will just mean it no longer conforms to original specifications and will require a proper IVA test - like kit cars have to go through. Basically as long as your car is built properly it will be fine.

You will conform like all the others that spout off on such matters. You have a family yet are prepared to risk other peoples lives it what would be an un-insured car as the mods cant be listed.
You sound like i did when the Speed limit came in, simply going to ignore it a few indorsements later i conformed
or the bloke at work who was not going to stop smoking in his office, saw him frog marched out with his cards
.
It sounds a good idea to me will get rid of the unsafe modded cars. Im not against mine being tested.

It will more likely mean all parts fitted to a vehicle will
Have to be type approved, like replacements cats are now. Which will mean all tuning parts will have to be type approved. Shocks lowering springs and brakes many are already type aproved being safety items. But it would mean things like intercoolers and hybrid turbos etc would all need to be tested. And it will be up to the presenter to prove its legit

Sounds like the same scary post that crops up each year and it never amounts to anything. It would cost far to much to put in place and then more money to enforce and then after all that they would lose out on their.... sorry... our hard earned tax money that they get through us buying such items.

I think it's a load of bollucks but I would like to see modified cars checked more thouroughly.
Fed up of seeing cars on cut springs, or people using washers to get camber.
