I'd say with the pressure it would have pushed it out and into the bonnet..

I think the piece would have blown out as of the pressure... but could you have melted the weld? I don't think so though?

If it would have headed through the exhaust it would be in the turbo almost instantly. Would whip it all off just to make sure though!

the position of my turbo there is no way of checking blades in situ

so its all off

would likely have made a right mess of your turbo had it gone through.

If you had a bit of metal that size go through the turbo you'd know about it! Must have had a massive weak point/manufacturing defect for that to happen surely?

looks like the welds overlap so not 100% it blew out, maybe at an angle a sit wouldnt have let go in 1 piece at 1 time i guess

looks a easy weld up job but turbo manifolds need to be thick/strong and that doesnt look all that thick or strong, dont tubular manifolds melt quickly if under wrap too? so if yours was one of the thinner ones i would expect it to be compromised at the temp these manifolds get to

That part AFAIK wouldn't have been welded by AVA, it was a standard XR2/3 magnex Manifold with the downpipe section modified to accomodate the turbo round the back, so the flange would still be as Magnex sold it.

Hopefully it's not caused any damage Gus!
