Default Locking rear brakes on track Saff.

I seem to be suffering with rear brakes locking on my car under heavy braking on track, which has resulted in me pointing in the wrong direction
Has anyone else had this issue and fixed it by running standard pads in the rear rather than higher spec pads?

Not sure if my ABS works any more as the light is on half the time.

Front 320x32mm with 4 pot Brembo/Compbrake caliper, HP+ Hawk pad.
Rear 300x20mm with 4x4 caliper, DS2500 pad.

Not alot of weight at the rear now the car is stripped

Which is why the rears are locking up

No weight and over braking

Try fitting some standard sized discs and you should solve the problem

I did have std 2wd setup at rear but that used to overhead the pads and munch through 2 sets of pads in a day. Hence moved to the larger vented disk, but maybe it's a bit much.

I had an issue with the rears locking. It turned out to be warped discs.

Took ages to track down cos I wasn't expecting rears to be warped.

I have 335 6 pots on the frot of mine with ds3000 pads, 305mm with 2wd calipers on the back of mine and use pagid rear pads from euro car parts and it is the most balanced it has ever been.

I used to use ds2500's on the back and the rear brakes were really snatch. I got pissed off spending Ł75 on rear pads that never used to work very well.

I have standard cosworth master cylinder and no bias valve. And I don't suffer with any locking up on the rear.

The euro car parts part number is 101590928

Try them out mate

Thanks Ronnie, I assume the Pagid pads are just std spec road pads, if so great i have just bought a couple of sets of some make i have never heard of but should balance the car out if its as you describe.

Ł13.50/set for the ones i bought is a lot cheaper than Ł90 for the DS2500
So if they do me a day, i'd be happy.

I used standard pads (ebc etc) in my 4x4 cossie rears and lost all brakes due to rears catching fire and boiling the brake fluid. That was a brown adrenalin moment. I use green stuff now and thinking of going yellow or blue. I also use Castrol SRF now.

me thinks discs to big for rear of car, i have no idea about the rear ends of a cossie (even though i had one) do they have some form of load sensor ?

none at all mate,

the fluid pressure to the rear is pump supplied and is constant pressure regardless of how hard you press the pedal, the more you push the pedal the harder the fronts are applied

Steve, thats exactly what happened to me 3 times on my last trackday at Oulton. (Twice with Sticky in the car ).

I'll see how the car performs with the 300mm rear with standard road pads, like Ronnie is running.
Your setup is an alternative option, Std 4x4 disks and track pads.

Dave, I've got a cheap bias valve you can have if you want to pick it up and fit this week before donnington. I reckon the road pads will probably do the trick though.

I think you'll be fine with the standard pads.

What suspension do you have on the back?

Ronnie, GAZ coilovers (basic kit), usually turned up 3 full turns out of a possible 5. Any stiffer on the rear shocks and the car bounces at the rear.

Mine used to lock up when I had worn rear beam bushes. As if the back used to move around to much and cause the rear end to go light.

Are all of your bushes ok? It's probably just the pads but worth thinking about.
