Default BMW e46 m3

Girlfirends diff has gone in her m3 and we've had a price for getting it re-conned of £1200. Does anyone know if thats a good price and if not, anywhere that'll do it. I believe that includes removing it and re fitting but not sure.

Garage said its 3k for a newone! Cheers passionBMW!

sounds about right TBH.

they wont know the true cost of the diff rebuild until it's stripped tho so make sure if it's only a few bearings needed they still dont charge you the full whack

Can't you just get a 2nd had diff and have someone fit it for you? Price wise I'm not sure but I know I can pick up a 2nd E39 M5 diff for 300 quid.

diffs aint that cheap, and yuo always take a gamble with 2nd hand.

i think it cost me about 800 quid for my E36 M3 diff when the bearings collapsed, thats all with fitting etc.

nowadays i have AA parts and breakdown cover for 75quid a year. if a diff pops itll cost me a 50quid excess

That aa cover only covers upto £500 though doesn't it? As I looked into it when my m3 kept breaking.
Think you could get a second hand diff cheaper, try m3cutters, you don't hear of many failing.

I had the diff on my E39 M5 rebuilt by a company in Northampton. Speak to Onkar at OSC Motorsport in Rugby to get the name of the place as I can't remember it! Was under £400 for the rebuild and it's been faultless since.

Aa is 500 a claim yes, but that's a big enough chunk of money to take the stress out of breakages. Would have saved me thousands on my m3s. Since I took out the cover I haven't had any problems tho. Lol!

just taken out this aa cover and was £130 for the escort cosworth and the bmw520d.

must be serviced within the guidelines of the manufacturer and there is an excess of £35 per claim, can claim upto 6 times in the year for mostly anything that breaks on the car.

a bit of piece of mind when out and about.

Did think about it for the girlfriends xsara! Only thing that ever went on my m3 that was under 500 was a power steering pipe, that was about 200!

yeah but if something breaks that costs 1k then you're only gonna have to pay 500, they will cover the first bit of the bill
