Steer clear of the CDTI, riddled with problems.....I have this on good authority from 2 mechanics who won't touch them, a car dealer who won't stock them and collegues who have had nowt but bother with them!

The DTI on the other hand isn't too bad, not as powerful but it's quite a reliable plodder and they don't look too bad, build quality is a bit crappy but they do tend to be cheap

I had one for a year or so, riddled with problems but i may have got a crap one....

power steering leak, gearbox leak, rear tyres wearing on the inside then making a noise like bearings had gone, but all the above lasted for 30k just kept my eye on it.

last thing to go was the egr, apparently Ł300 plus to replace but i cleaned mine and got rid quick, only had 90k on the clock aswell.

oo injector seals go, not a bad problem aslong as you dont park in on a hill nose first as the fuel runs back to the tank and is a pig to start.

chains aswell ;0)

Workmate has a 2.2 dti vectra and apart from a gearbox issue he really loves his for space and comfort.

His box issue is that it does not sit in 5th gear at all it jumps out everytime, he has had it checked and the box needs to be stripped so he hasnt bothered LOL but i have no idea if thats a common problem with them or not.

Id have one as theyre a good looking motor imo

common knowledge is to stay clear from the 2.2

as said 1.9 is the one to go for

I nearly bought a petrol Vectra SRI a couple of years ago..

Just make sure you get a long test drive if you can and on mixed roads as personally I hated the way it drove and handled....

I think there's a reason they are cheap..

I have no idea about the engines but thought I'd add that anyway..

my father in law has a sri diesel and its shite, he's had nothing but problems with it for the last year. have a look on the vectra c owners club and you'll see a few common problems with them

ive actually just been away with him today trading it in for a 3 series beemer

think the main prob with the cdti's is the inlet, think they get so clogged up they need replacing, saying that my dads had four or five company vectras and they've been fine apart from one blew the turbo but Vx have now put a inline filter to the turbo so that cured oil starvation...

the injector seals are o-rings I expect and perish, but to get to them is a pig to do, I parked on a hill once and never again! lol

20k servicing also worries me on cars aswell.

nice motors for the money, they're not the most luxurious motor nor drive the best.
to be fair not many great diesels out there on a low budget though, personally i'd go VAG though, easily remapped to give the extra go and sem to be able to do moon miles with minimal maintenance. what's the budget and why a vectra may i ask?

love the people slating them lol we have owned our 1.9 cdti sri for 2 years now and the only problem we have had is 1 injector seal, maybe we just got a good one. But as an everyday car its spot on excellent mpg big inside and nice sized boot, couldnt ask for more really.

wouldnt say it looks to bad either

that's true the swirl pot linkage jumps off but they still run fine with out it connected i prefer the cdti over the 2.0-2.2dti. If your going too look at a dti take the top hat off the fuel filter housing and see if the diesel is black with oil if it is just walk away injector seals have gone in it.

for the dti engine there's 2 high blow and low blow high blow metal pipe runs over top of the engine low blow it runs round the side

Just sold my vectra b 2.2dti after doing 100000 miles in the last 7 years (130000 in total) never let my down and averaged 50mpg (after removing the cat) ultra reliable car if a little unrefined compared to modern diesels

I've had use of a 1.9cdti 120bhp and it's never missed a beat. It's now 5 years old with 140k on. Empty or fully loaded it pulls like a train.
My brother owns a 7 year old 1.9cdti 150bhp and that's had it's issues, ie inlet, egr, dmf.
But there well know issues and you've gotta be prepaired to get your hands dirty to keep the repair costs down IMO.
IMO I'd stay away from the dti's.

I hate Vectras with a passion and would have a Passat or a Mondeo over one any day of the week, the Vectra handles like shit and is so bland inside its unreal but its each to their own.

drove one for a while many many moons ago

and wile it was fine on the motorway, it didn't handle that well and the interior felt "cheap", properly plastic nastyness

but my one abiding memory was the traction control being just SOOOO intrusive, had too many near misses as when i went to pull away with a bit of gusto i was left there with no power in the middle of a roundabout with traffic bearing down on me

my mate said that they had sorted the problem a few years later but another mate bought an 06 astra and it felt the same cheapness inside and nothing in the vauxhall range seems to be able to shed that cheap "looks like metal but is actually plastic" feel on the insides

i couldn't live with it, but perhaps you can, just take it for a long drive before you commit

Have a Vectra or 2 at work, terrible car. Looks like crap, drives like crap and has an unrefined cheap and nasty interior. Other than it being cheap I can't think of one reason to own one.

Had an Insignia SRi the other weekend and that just further reinforced my opinion that modern Vauxhalls are pretty unpleasant

lol....exactly.....

Well i got one in the end and for what i gave for it, it seems fine. As said i wanted the DTi engine one and tbh it seems ok......Nothing special but not as terrible as some make out.

As for the looks, i prefer it over the mk3 Mondeo.....

A daily driver where you are going to spend a lot of time. Why the Hell would you want to sit in a portaloo all day to only get a sofa at the weekend?

not bad engines at all, chains dont really have a problem with them, yes the injector sealls can leak which makes them a pig to start first thing in the morning but can be sorted by re-routeing the return pipe, more common problem on them is vacuum hose splitting
