Default Is it me or is it the seat....back hurting BMW

I have not long bought an E36 BMW. Since driving the car my lower back hurts. I thought it could be the seat so bought another seat from a scrappy and my lower back still hurts? It has only started hurting since I bought the car. Are BMW E36 seats prone to having a weak spot/breaking as in causing some kind of back pain?

Any advice would be great as in a bit of pain here and dont really want to use the wifes 1.0 Polo!!

They might just not be suitable for you mate sorry to hear you are suffering- it will undoubtedly be a muscular imbalance somewhere in your body that the driving position in an e36 exacerbates
I had it once when I bought a saab 9-3. I sold it within 3 weeks because it upset my hip big time!
Get yourself booked in with a sports therapist and see I that can point out what's going on with your back
I bet it's your hip flexors or something getting tight and placing too much tension on the lower spine.

you have to get the seat position exactly right or it will hurt your back. had this with my e36 m3. the trouble was our lass is 5 foot tall and i'm 6 foot tall so the seat was allways moving. get it right and there perfect. drove mine to germany and back 12 hours each way and never even got a twinge.

Thank you for the replies

Going to get myself booked in with a sports therapist now and also try and adjust the seat so I can find a 'comfortable' spot!

Saw Dr this afternoon as needed some pain killers......He said I have classic signs of Sciatica. Been given a little heap of drugs, feel a bit drowsy now!

I have asked a few people to sit in my car and they say it is fine.....Strange how it has effected me? I have put a thin bit of wood behind my back when driving as I kind of feel I need some support. Cant understand why though....I have had loads of 205 GTI's, R5 Turbo's, RST's, Golf MK2/3 GTI's and never any troubles with my back??

Sciatica can come from spinal issues (herniation of l4/5) or inflammation of the piriformis in yet butt. Let's hope it's the latter!
Do a search for
'glute stretches' in google and get on it mate!
Sciatica isn't nice mate best of luck getting it sorted!

I had it with my civic type r, for a couple of week, then got the seat how it felt right rather than just jumping in, after that all was ok.

Always found them mega comfy but I'm a fat lad so maybe sink into the seat better!!!

Mine have always had leather in them though so that could mean something?they are a very low driving position.
