XR2 or 3i if it has to be a ford?? The Essex RSOC 3i looks like ALOT of fun

IF you don't mind non-ford tho [cue the narrow minded muppets ] Nova's are SO cheap and if you check through Rally sites and Motorsport news, there's SO many second hand bits for rally cars, cages etc cheap

phase 1 106 Rallye (1.3 ones) - would spank a 2i on track (not sure if they are that cheap though)

or a cheap S13 200SX (can be had under Ł500), maybe an S12 Silvia (very cheap),

Check out this site. The guy had a n/a 2.9 XR4x4 and a Twin turbo one as well. There are some good in car videos of them hacking round various different tracks. The n/a one had about 160k miles on the engine when he bought and clocked up a few thousand more track miles and was fine. If you want cheap, reliable and relatively quick, avoiding front wheel drive, then you could do a lot worse than a V6 4x4. Check out his site:

hi mate
I wanted a cheap solid RST, bought a 2owner 61k stored for 4 yrs RST for Ł1100, needing nowt more than a battery tray and fuse box panel, othwise standard and fine. The plan was not to drop it off to a garage and buy lots of trick bits but to build a reliable cheap (ish) track car. So far its not cost alot, and is caged, harnessed, mild engine mods, (cam, chip zosrt, cossie cooler and soon 4x4 cossie turbo, cossie brakes,) but all in all not cost me more than 2k so far, and when done should be a damm good laugh, and if it blows its not all that exspensive to fix, i just done my headgasket myself for Ł50 on sat

If it has to be a ford. id go for a Fiesta/Escort RST. One of the two..

If it was down to me though, id go for a 205 GTi (the 1.9 model) shit of a shiny shovel, round a track,(maybe with a bit of work...) i rekon they'd spank most rst's/xr2's

It has to be the XR2 Mk2, the MK3 XR2i is a decent motor but it doesn't handle as well as the MK2 and it doesn't seem as quick.

XR2's were some of the quickest cars I saw on the track last year.

There's one that's got a 2.0L Zetec that's rapid!

Don't get me wrong they are quick as standard or near standard and LOADS of fun!!!

Peugeot 205 GTi's make good little track weapons too!
