Default Road legal track tyres

Does anyone have any experience of the Federal 595 RSR or Kumho V70A (Soft compound) track tyres?

I'm looking to order 4. The federals are £114 each or the Kumhos are currently at £100 each.

How would they compare to my current R888s (at £180 each)

The khumos In soft compound will be too soft for trackdays imo. I'd go for the hard compound as they last much better.
The federals aren't quite as good as the R888 or khumo's but start of with more tread so last a bit longer.

I'd go for hard compound khumos if it were my decision

The soft kumhos are on special. The hard compound arent really a great saving over 888s.

When you say aren;t quite as good - how much do you mean. The car does track days and the odd bit of road driving. I'm not hunting for every last tenth lol. I'd rather have 90% of the grip of 888s for half the price

I think you may have just made your decision much easier.

Federals will poss be best suited to your needs.
Other alternatives are toyo R1R, Yokohama ad08

guys, quick one slightly off topic, i've got slicks on my track car, they are 240/610 r17 tyres on them and looking to buy some road track tyres for the ring. what tyre size will i need? looking at the federal FZ-201's they look to be a good spec.

They are a nice tyre, but dont think they are strictly road legal.

I bought a pair of them and they did say not for highway use or something like that on the side. Well...they used to say that lol.

Cant really comment how good as only used them at TOTB and there was no chance of them gripping anyway.

If it's for road/track I'd just go for a more normal tyre like the RSR. Ive had some kuhmo's on the past. They dont stay road legal for long.

Kumho estca v70a are a awesome tire once warm but soft compound won't last long on track I use medium on the front and hard on the rear for the road and I can't fault them

FZ-201's are not E marked.

But technically that doesnt make them illegal ( although I had previously thought so ). Apparently it's just illegal to sell them for road use without the E-mark.
Not actually illegal to use them.

Some rally tyres that are used between stages on open roads arent E-marked, but they are deemed legal to use. Same with some American import cars with strange sizes. A lot of american tyres are only DOT marked simply because they have never needed to be approved within Europe. But they are still ok to use.

Although it's all good and well saying it. The wrong cop could give you some serious headaches over it if he disputed their legality. And likely some points too if you couldnt afford to prove otherwise in court.

If you're using them in the road, safer to stick with tyres you know are road legal unless there really is no other option.

I was lead to beleive r888s or A048s are the main 2 for road legal track tyres... Am i wrong?
They are something i might try in the near future.
Im a massive toyo fan, T1r and T1s and was going to go for the R888 or R1r next
