Talking A Very Honest Thread That Requires Very Honest Advice!

Right

Where to begin.

I have saved again and made some money here and there and have a fair chunk of cash around me again. (thats not it)

Now i find myself in a situation which i imagine a few of you guys have found yourself in aswell. I want a bit of fun, I have the merc which i use for work and as a social car and it does the job perfectly, However i need something with a bit of a thrill factor.

Now i find myself in the same old conundrum, Do i go and buy yet another RS.

Now many people on here may know me, I have been foolish in the past with cosworths, I spent nearly 20k on an engine chasing 600bhp in a saff that Mr Reyland kindly told me was a piece of shit.

I have had 3 saff engines rebuilt, owned about 7 in total and had all sorts but never had a big power 2wd saff.

I finally owned my dream car which was an escort cosworth, i spent a small fortune on it only to find out it wasnt all ringing true with the car got scared and sold it on for reasonable money when i really didnt need to and had nothing to worry about.

The honest bit is that the escort just didnt really do it for me. I had just sold an FQ360 that was so much quicker and better handling it was unbelievable, Although IMO the escort was 20 times better looking.

So i am really confused at the moment, i am so close to contacting the guy with the concours 15k one on escortcosworth.com its unreal but i think i may regret it.

I have about 26-28K to spend but dont wanna lose it all. ive never owned a 3 door but its a lottery trying to buy a decent one, and imo escorts are much better looking.

Ive had skylines M5s M3s Evos and Scoobys and all sorts of hot hatches, So im stuck

So i really dont know what to do. I have been mega stupid in the past and am not about to jump back into the cosworth thing without considering my options.

So any advice greatly appreciated...

Cheers Guys.

first question id ask myself is what do i want to use the car for? weekend toy, odd track day, can you actually appreciate owning a concourse car and the upleep it will take etc etc... if you want a fast car then start with one on the first place

if its a weekend toy/ occasional day ride out i think a cossie is a great choice IMO

i wouldnt spend 26k on one, but you should be able to buy a big power & well sorted saff for <15k. You might have to wait for the right car, but with anything RS related, dont rush
A evo would always be a good choice, but they are common and IMO dont do anything for me.

If I was in your position and wanted to stay loyal to the Ford/RS brand, then I'd go for either a MK1 FRS or a MK2 FRS... neither should give you any hassle, both (with a few mods) are fairly awesome point to point cars and have the RS badge on the boot.

Failing that, if you don't mind going away from Ford with your 'toy' car, with that level of spends sitting there....... I'd be extremely tempted to take the plunge and go for an E46 M3 CSL.

Cheers,
Grant

My other problem is really dont wanna be paying another monthly insurance so it really needs to be classic sub Ł500 insurance. The escort was like Ł350 or something when i did it which was awesome.

and yeah it wouldnt get used in the week at all. just a bit if weekend fun and a bit of a trackday modifying type car.

so i dont want to go and buy a mk2 FRS which will be worth 8k in 3 years time or something if you get me.

I want to get something thats already lost all its money...

You've had so many great cars, but say you bought 'another' rs do you think in a few months you'd be bored of it? the money you've already spent on engines phew..if it was me it would either be a classic car? anything really so long as you would get a decent return on your money in time if/when you came to sell it,but you want fun and with that money i think id go for an Ariel Atom......

If you need to think about it and ask other peoples opinions then it's probably not for the best imo!

Maybe its time to get a bike licence and a tidy bike ???

Just a thought, still have shitloads in the bank and a bike is probs far more reliable than any car

i was looking at atoms and im sure they would be a right laugh, but hmm insurance.

i agree with the classic bit theres a 26k RS500 thats done 100k but i dint see that going up in money really but what do i know.

Would love a mk2 escort but prob best to get a genuine rs2000 or something and i dont think thats something easily done.

Be patient and wait for decent high spec saph 2wd. If it needs anything your still well below your budget . Failing that picture a 3 door sitting outside its the 'one to have' especially if its weekend toy .

Buy an old Porsche 911. Classic insurance and the value will likely rise over the time you have it... they're not crazy quick, but IMO they are special cars.

If it's weekend only, I wouldn't buy anything like an Evo myself. You want something really special and exciting. Technical perfection or perfect refinement wouldn't be high up my list compared to thrills, excitement and feel.

A properly sorted Cosworth could fit that bill and leave you with plenty of change I bet. Just buy one where all the work is done and enjoy it.

I think if it were me, I'd be looking at the following:

Properly sorted 3dr/RS500
Stripped out, hardcore EsCos
Delta Integrale
Caterham/Westfield

I'm sure there's plenty of others. I think you want something that just makes you think "WOW" every time you open the garage door.
