If it's weekend only, I wouldn't buy anything like an Evo myself. You want something really special and exciting. Technical perfection or perfect refinement wouldn't be high up my list compared to thrills, excitement and feel.
A properly sorted Cosworth could fit that bill and leave you with plenty of change I bet. Just buy one where all the work is done and enjoy it.
I think if it were me, I'd be looking at the following:
Properly sorted 3dr/RS500
Stripped out, hardcore EsCos
Delta Integrale
Caterham/Westfield
I'm sure there's plenty of others. I think you want something that just makes you think "WOW" every time you open the garage door.

Buy a well sorted escos that has the go and show you want. might take a little bit of patients for the right one, or maybe offering a little more to pursuade someone to let theirs go, everything is for sale at a price.

Sorry but when i was on the look out with you to find you a 3 door you came accross as wanting eveything for nothing ,ie even offered me 7k for my 3 door just after id spent 6k on the engine alone and im not in need of the money .Sorry but i find threads like this as people thinking there big shots and want to show off.

Have you thought about a Z cars mini?
A classic mini shell sat on a space frame with a tuned Honda S2000 engine powering the rear wheels.
One of my good friends has one, absolutely kills everything, I havent driven it but as a passenger it scared the shit out of me!
I can only imagine what it would be like to drive, it accelerates like you do not believe, with no turbo....
...just a thought.

you will never get back all the money you have spent on your car as none of us ever do really and i found you came across thinking that you would and thats probably why you still own it.
we only looked at one 3 door and i valued your advice and would have done on any others, you obviously just got the hump when you thought i offered you 7k for a mint 3 door, i think there must have been some confusion there. i seem to remember you wanted 14k or something and i remember thinking at the time i would rather buy a mint escos for that but thats personal preference.
If you would like me to send you a screen shot of my account total please let me know, however that would be showing off. I never wanted to fall out with you mate but something quite clearly changed with you guys for no genuine reason at all, i bet im getting abused with no real foundation as ive explained myself to joe, he just didnt believe me.

I never said i wanted 14k. i told you id spent 16k on the car you then offered me 7k and yes i did take offence to that as most people prob would . you had it in mind you could sell it on for 12k and bank 5k out of it which ive seen you do to a few people, and you can send me a screen shot of your account if that makes you happy but ive seen 28k before so wouldnt really do much for me tbh . Much better interior.
I only paid 26k for mine over a year ago and its FAR FAR higher spec.
EXCELLENT cars.
Getting in and out of them is such a pain though. Really gets on your tits....
