Possibly Own a Ringer..
Please can anyone help me out?
im devastated to have found out that after 3yrs of ownership my beloved motor COULD be a throw back to times gone by
Dont want to sound all "Neighbours" about it but its worrying the shit outta me, so im trying to laugh about it all.....abit.
Tbh im absolutely gutted/heartbroken, and this is a possible can of worms i really dont need at the mo.
Ive a rough thread about it all here
http://xrtwo.speedcentral.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=101251 PIC HEAVY as you read.
I appreciate alot of people WONT read it all, but im truely devasted and feel a complete MUG for being so stupid not to have noticed anything wrong, nor has anyone else tbf..
Not a HUGE amount of money involved but it was hard ernt/borrowed to get her so i could really do with some Propper advice as to how/what i can possibly do...
I keep drawing blanks and just want to try and sort something out legally/safely but the only VIABLE option i can see is to break and be done..
But i hope from the pics of the rest of the structure you may all see why i would like to try and find another possible way to sort this out for the reasons stated above, moneys tight hence she was being sold before all this happened.
Have a look, anyone else agree with the speculations i or others had in the thread as to WHY its been done??????????
So there you go,TBH i simply dont know what to do about this fella's, any genuine advice would be very GREATFULLY appreciated
Cheers all

My m8 had a black xr2 like this years ago, check the engine number and the other vin tag against the v 5 I bet the vin tag matches but the engine number doesn't or isn't there
is there any markings on the windows?
Also check the date stamps on the plastics ashtray etc to see when they were made might be a good clue if the ringed car was actually built after the id car was registered

Right my "mate" went through this years ago BUT it WAS a ringer.
He bought it very cheap (mk2 gti) and had all the logbook etc but after changing the wiper motor spotted the panel had been cut and welded.
He ground the numbers out to blank the shell, pulled the VIN off, numberplates etc and broke the steering lock, drove the car to a quiet set of garages, and reported it stolen.
He then rang the police a day later saying he'd found it locally with little damage but it looked like the id had been tampered with.
Police came out and he told them he was restoring the car hence had no tax Mot or insurance on it.
They wrote a letter that they had no interest in the car as being stolen and he kept his original plates with no issues whatsoever.
That car went round for years with no issues and may still even be on the road.
Me and a mate went to look at and he bought an xr3i registered "series 1 turbo".
The car turned out to be a mk4 rs turbo with a mk3 front end rung to an A reg 3i.
I pulled the carpet back and found the numbers not even welded in straight and we were set to walk away when he also produced a letter from the police stating they had no interest in this car although to me it was a clear ringer!!!!
My mate bought it for Ł500 with tax/test and drove it for 2 years, went through 2 mots and was sold on again with no issues.
I'm trying to say obviously the police are concerned about rung cars but an old fiesta someones gone to the bother of swapping an engine and all glass into is probably so far off their radar they won't even bother to send someone out to look at it.
Put a blank floorpan repair piece in and be done with it,if the shells clean that's all anyone cares about, you've got the v5 as well, matching numbers, glass even so just go for it.
One other thing you could do for Ł30 is hpi it,that revealed why an old Rs turbo I had years ago had a SABTVR number stamped on it as it was stolen recovered twice.
Never bothered me or who I sold it onto.

Feel for you mate but as wrong as this sounds, I very much doubt the owner or insurance company are looking for this car now so do with it as you please imo. I've had plenty of Fords that have had new floor pans welded in with no number at all

If id have knowingly sold this and been caught id potentially be in the shit.
If you had bought this noone the wiser and found out you'd still be happy ?
Ko.
Came on to broaden my search for options as to what i can do legally, appreciate its an old fez but its still mine and im gonna loose out, best part of Ł1k and 3yrs of love for this motor. Not alot to most but to me it is.
Anyway CHEERS to all the other peeps who have offered their op's an exp's on this..
Very kind

Sorry are you trying to be clever or somet with the Yoda comment?
As stated - you've prob got a re shell.
And you have made a song and dance about it - why is beyond me, I certainly wouldn't if I found something like this out, especially not on an internet forum and certainly not on here.
As for the last bit - if it is a ringer the strong possibility is that it ISN'T yours and is actually the property of an insurance company whether you paid for it or not.
Truth is though as its a Mk2 fiesta its unlikely to be the sort of car the police will stop to find out if its a ringer.
As for advice....
If it was me and the vin on the slam panel matched the log book I'd weld the floor up and say its had a floor repair due to rust hence no floor numbers if I ever needed to sell the car............... but now you've made it obvious the history is dubious you may struggle.

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
i wouldnt worry too much. it could be a ringer, more likely though a re shell OR repaired floor panel. if it was an newish range rover audi merc ect id be worried but since its an ageing ford which are prone to rot id go with the latter two.
#28
And risk selling it too some loon like you, or similiar off here?
Ive read what people say about you on here
fuck that, imagine someone like Mr Pennaleaver bought it and found this out after..
dear god if someone like Warren did he would have a map made of outta my entrails, with my arsehole as a tableweight, and id be noone the wiser, fuck the risk tbh i'll ebay it, be safer

Why not simply fix it and use the car? And when the time comes to sell it plead ignorance if the buyer finds the plate (unlikely). No offence but it's not like you're going to loose thousands, it will still have a value even as it is.
As said i severely doubt it's on the police's radar. And while I can see you're just trying to be honest, posting it all over the internet does seem to be a bit on the foolish side.

Been in constant use since i bought her up untill christmas eve when the box went.
Foolish to me is to plead igs(lie)and flog it based on a "chance" someone wont notice..
Can now never genuinely know if she is a sport or not, so the value is going to turn to shit, which is fair but not for me as i loose whatever i do unless i follow the fix, flog and hope plan.
Risky nowadays imop, moneys money regardless of how much.
I posted this up after alot of forum warriors had had a pissyfit about me "not selling" i decided to show em why i pulled the add...couldnt care less who knows tbh,as if i did, well id be reading PF mag now
Advice for how to sort it is all i asked for as if she dont sell "as is" im going to have to break or keep..but as said by others its a shame to break it.
Really cant see a way of keeping her yet,as thats why i went to sell her in the 1st place, if i can keep her i'll repair it all as long as i aint breaking the law, HENCE anyone know the best way, LEGALLY or whats involved to cover me if i ever then tried to sell her on?
#34
I appreciate that, but gotta agree if she is genuine she is atleast still a fairly rare beast nowadays, bet theres less of these than the RS500's??
Cant find that out as FACT anywhere..........
tbh i would just hate to know that MAYBE someone(or even 2 people) out there could be potentially be missing their pride and joys is all., of course its still just a mk2 but ive put pure love, and my cash into it is all..
Hence dont wanna continue and loose even more.."should" something come of it, not an easy feeling to live with, i hope you'll understand that regardless of money/model..
cheers

Just repair the floor and stamp the VIN back in (its your car you've had the fucker 3 years), the stamped number needs to be embossed into the metal of the car to be legal so all you're doing is making it right. I'd either keep posting pics of it and expect trouble or just sort it out.
Is it a Mk1?? If so pm me if selling as I have a guy hounding me to do a VAG 20v MK1.

And the no's are imprinted to the plate, stars an all.
No more pis will be disclosed till its all sorted.
HOPING it is a mk 2, hard to tell on the outside as she is paneled up as..
Anyone know how to spot the differences between mk1/2 just to be sure????

What I think has happened is this: When the car was nearly new it was involved in an acident (you can see that the O/S front corner has been repaired in the pics). The acident was recorded so the value of the car was significantly reduced.
A second fiesta sport/fiesta sport ID was found cheaply. Most likely from a car that was also written off or crushed but the id was kept.
The new ID was put onto the old shell so there was now a new fiesta that has no recorded accident damage and could be sold for market value.

alot of trouble as all the engine numbers match so not only have they swapped the plates but engine, glass etc, personally i think its just had shoddy repair and number is that of the car but been put back in piss poor.

How is the old bit of shit, still ticking Gareth Gates?
Thats the point though mate, i dont, but you know the way things are atmo...Be heartbroken to loose the old shitter to the crusher if all goes sour..further on.
Hope so as that is what it looks like.
Just a Shame Geordie la forge got involved with the repairs
