Default Oil change issue

Hi All,

Before I go off on one at the garage, thought I should raise this here.

Now, whenever I've done an oil change on a petrol car, it's taken a good thousand miles or so before it starts to discolour.

I've had the oil change on my Caddy done by the local VW van centre, and am a little concerned that having covered maybe 10 miles max, the oil is pretty much the same shade of black that it was when it went in.

The van is a 1.9tdi and has done 110k. The question is, if it's been done properly including a new filter, would you still expect to see black oil, given the age of the engine and it being a tdi?

My intuition says no, but I have been known to get things wrong

We had this issue when we brought our first and only Diesel years ago, they serviced it but then my Dad checked the oil and thought they did not as it was still black!

He wrote to them and they offered to do another change free, which we went with, still have the letter from them, they said some of the old oil stays in the 'tappet chest' which is what causes this issue.
