Just wondered whats inside one really, i need -fittings welded into one but that got me thinking, can i just make one from scratch? Is there anything fancy inside one or is it just a empty pot?

Thanks

You have 1or 2 in feeds on one side and 1 or 2 outlets on the other side with a plate separating it so the oil hits the plate and drops to the bottom of the tank through another fitting for a drain.
The plate goes from the top to the close to the bottom but not all the way to allow the air up out of the outlet fittings.

No, that baffle extends down to far and once fluid builds up the engine cannot breathe through it without risk of blowing it out the top hole.

There needs to be sufficient volume for fluid at the bottom, without it posing a restriction to free air passage.

And baffles need to be sufficient to allow air to flow freely, without allowing any fluids to escape.

The other way is;
you have your 2 inlets at the top
one small drain outlet at the bottom
one large breather outlet at the bottom- and this large outlet pipe goes up inside the tank close to the top.

You don't need to breath from the rocker cover, just breathe from either side of the block and drain into the sump.
If you go onto GGR website and there's a good write up why not to.
