Default Preload. Techniques to get the rod on the wastegate. T3

Hi guys, how do you guys get sufficient pull on the rod to get it over the wastegate when having a decent pre-load. This is on a T3 converted fiesta. I'm currently taking the starter motor off for access and then putting mole grips on the rod and trying to pull it over the wastegate arm. Anyone found any easier ways or techniques? On my previous actuator i locked a nut on the shaft and then used that to adjust it but this is not possible on this one. (Forge 12-22psi). Any help will be greatly appreciated. Jamie

should only be half a hole but you can connect a pump to it and let the air do all the work for you

i used an airline last time, but half a hole of pre-load is possible to pull over if you can lift an engine on your own.

Footpump, job done.

And there is no rule on preload, unless you are using a preset ecu which also controls boost.

A lot of OEM cars run virtually no preload

Surely a normal foot pump has a tyre valve on the end which is interchangeable so surely you can't put a piece of hose straight on? I may be being thick but could you explain a little :S. Jamie

Mine came with these. Just use the red one in the wastegate hose.

not done this on turbo but if you take the rubber off an old car valve it has a long brass center tube which can be put in a correct gauge of pipe

No offense...but are some people so dim they cant improvise ?

there will be a bit of rubber pipe going from the pump body to the tyre valve fitting. Perhaps just take the tyre valve fitting off, and voila a rubber hose. Or cut it and use it ? Extend it ?

It isnt rocket science.

Im not dim fella and i can improvise but its alot easier to find out what works from people who have done it before instead of faffing around with different idea's untill you find one that works. All pumps are designed differently and some don't have the option to remove the pipe from the pump body (Like my friends), hence why i asked about the fittings. I was just trying to cover all the bases, i am very grateful for your input . Jamie

And who knows...the foot pump tyre fitting might just fit over the w/g barb anyway

If you can't pull it with a set of mole grips the actuator must be pretty stiff/too tensioned so you're going to have a big boost spike, i'd reccomend either a softer actuator, less pre-load and a bleed valve for a better boost delivery.

Yeah atm its spiking at 1bar and dropping to 0.6. So your saying less preload to get it told hold better? And yes i have a bleed valve but its currently turned all the way down when i put the actuator on today. I always thought it was the other way round? More pre-load so it holds? Then adjust boost through bleed valve. I am new to having a turbo'd car so its all a learning curve lol. Jamie
